Diplomatico Rum

I dabble only occasionally in rum and I had never been blown away by one, until now. Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva Rum is a powerhouse of amazing flavor. Sweet and dark, this 12 year old pot still distilled Venezuelan rum has a strong molasses taste. Some of the new aged rums taste like whiskey, this one distinctly does not...it's all rum and all good.

I was by Specs in Houston today and they had 1 bottle of the Reserva (8 YO) on the shelf for under $20. No sign of the Exclusiva 12YO. Very tasty for $20. Looks like this brand is made by Licorerias Unidas distillery which is owned Diageo.

The producer is Destilerias Unidas, a different company which is, I believe, independent.
