Anyone have a favorite Mai Tai recipe they want to share. We are headed our for a little three day trip next week with some friends. I will have to bring a nice bottle of Bourbon to share and the latest favorite "sweet" drink for my wife has been a Key Lime martini.
One of the guys coming along is searching for the "perfect" Mai Tai recipe. I thought I might find a good one here?

I do not like Mai Tai's. They are far too sweet. Plus, I once got bombed on them at a luau on Oahu and I never wanted another one, since.

From the comments on the site:

"... a Mai Tai that is absolutely worth the 50-mile drive from Chicago."

"...The Mai Tai is awesome and is their most popular drink; served up in a Tiki Mug if you so wish and garnished with a stick of Rock Candy."

The rock candy on a stick is a great addition...it counters the initial sour by slowing disolving...if you dont eat it first!

"...the mai tai there is killer...complete with rock candy stir stick,.."

Maybe if you call the bartender will give his recipe?

Here is my favorite. At the beach, it's tough to beat one of these. Unless it's a top shelf margarita, on the rocks, sugar instead of salt...

Ingredients:

1 oz. Dark Rum
1 oz Light Rum
1 oz Orange Curacao
2 oz Orange Juice
1/2 oz Lime Juice
Dash Orgeat
Dash Simple syrup (bar syrup)Preparation:

Combine all of the ingredients in the order listed in a Old Fashioned style glass over shaved ice. Stir with a swizzle stick. Garnish with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

The dark rum float is a nice touch.
