View Full Version : Underground drinking
Last time I was in Kentucky, I was told that the state has a law on the books prohibiting the consumption of alcohol below ground.
My question for those of you from KY; have you ever heard of an instance of this law being enforced ... in recent history, say the last 15 years?
That's news to me. My guess would be that it has something to do with the coal mines. I have seen the working conditions of some of these places and my natural tendancy would be to stay drunk if I worked there http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/frown.gif
I think it had more to do with underground speakeasys during the prohibition era. Seems an odd law, but I guess the law enforcement agencies want to keep the criminals where they can see 'em.
Maybe you're right, but KY was a pretty rural place during prohibition. Maybe there were some speakeasies in Louisvile, but I figure that most Kentuckians that wanted to drink probably had a still out in the woods somewhere http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif when was that law put on the books, do you know?
I just talked on the phone with Sam Cecil.....I asked him your question....He said he did not know of any law against it but there could possibly be one....for the safety in the coal mines......
Your best bet would be Chuck....after that it would take a trip to the courthouse and try to find the law there.....that could take months to do....That is what the Getz said...... http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif ....I talked to my Aunt Jo and she did not know.....
When I was on the phone with Sam we talked about Speakeasy's during prohibition ........He told me that the Seelback Hotel in downtown Louisville, had a secret underground passage that would take you about 3 blocks away....so the law could not get you for drinking.......

I know that no one would want to come to Ky and break the law , so to be on the safe side , my cellar is off limits during the cookout! whew I was worried about that one . I don't know. It's news to me. I imagine it showed up in one of those "strange laws that are still on the books" articles that appear from time to time.
Indiana used to have a law about breeding animals in the open where women could see them , like they wouldn't understand what was happening! http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif

For what it's worth I procured a 1.75 of EC 12 for the cookout. Also I have a little of a 1.75 of OF 86. Of course as tight as I am with my liquid assets you may see me sqirrelling them away if it looks like everyone brought enough http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif Murphydawg I don't think the Blanton's will hold out but I'll save you the bottle http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif
