Tool, The Beatles, Jazz, anything but C &/or W
A couple obvious ones:
Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)- The Doors
Whiskey In The Jar- Garcia/Grisman
Life By The Drop- Stevie Ray
Dropkick Murphys -- "The Dirty Glass"
D'oh! Forgot the favorite, Whiskey River- Willie Nelson.
As far as albums go, The Pizza Tapes by David Grisman, Tony Rice, and Jerry Garcia is a fine piece of music to sip by. If you also happen to be a connoisseur of recording quality, you won't be disappointed.
Not a favorite song, since there are so many. Right now I'm listening to Chantal Kreviazuk's "The Best of 1996-2006", to her song, "Wonderful". Nice sounds.

I'm going to have to go with Albert King, "Blues Power." Also, SRV's version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing."
I'm going with Sweet Caroline
Uncle Tupelo- "I Got Drunk", "Whiskey Bottle" or "Moonshiner". Then of course, The Pogues- "Streams of Whiskey"

Don't usually get the chance to listen to music while I'm drinking. When I do, it's usually jazz. Not the funky stuff, and not the elevator stuff either. The in-between stuff. Nice smooth jazz that you can just sit back in your chair and go, "Ahhhhhhhh". Gerald Albright-Georgia On My Mind, Chris Botti-One For My Baby, Fourplay-Slow Slide, Free Range & Sunday Morning, Dave Grusin-Serengeti Walk, Mountain Dance. These are just a few of many that I like. Try it. You'll like it! Joe
PS If I had to pick one, (because of the nature of the song/bourbon) it would be Chris Botti, One For My Baby.

Pull out the Vinyl and toss on Kinda Blue. Miles sets the mood for much consumption and relaxation.Any song will do here, but if I had to pick, it'd be "So what"... Trains solo is a classic. IMHO.
I like Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Forty", even though
for me, forty is a distant and fading memory.

Billie Holiday ... "Fine & Mellow" ... this one video demonstrates everything that is truly magical to me about music.
My musical taste is very, very eclectic. At the present time, I'm playing punk rock with some guys. But sipping some fine bourbon, this is what I dig ...

"Love is like a faucet. It turns off an on.
Love is just like faucet. It turns off and on.
Sometimes when you think it's on baby,
It has turned off and gone."

If you liked that one, Andy, then you'll love this (and yes, that IS Louis Armstrong):

Tonight it is Joe Satriani's "If I Could Fly"
But other nights it could be John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer"
Then the next it could be Duke Ellington and John Coltrane's "In a Sentamental Mood" or Nina Simone's "Feeling Good"

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
Bill Evans or Morphine.
James Yorkston (Scottish Folk Singer) is also great whiskey music.
Jeremy, if you're coming to the sampler let me know and I'll bring some Robin Lange, he's my favorite Scottish folk/whisky singer/.
I always liked Mandy (Barry Manilow's song), what can I say.
But right now I've got one of the reissued Creedence Clearwater Revival albums on, loud. The catalogue has been re-mastered this year with bonus tracks.
On Bayou Country, they've added a song from a '69 Fillmore West show called Crazy Otto. It's a blues, fairly lengthy, with great chord work and psychedelicized solos. Amazing, heavy stuff.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Whenever I hear Funkadelic, I think back to the TV show "The White Shadow", and the episode when the touring Soviet Union team comes to Carver High. During a scene by the water fountain (Admission here. I have referred to the Internet for the actual details):
Russian Player (Trying to be friendly, "hip", and topical): "We very much like your Elton John in my country."
Jackson: "Well, I'm into Funkadelic myself!" (He then cuts in and slurps a drink from the water fountain.)
Russian Player (Looking bewildered and soooo out of touch): "Funka-what??"
I was a senior in high school when that aired. 28yrs ago. I still remember it. I remember the guys (mostly white) on our high school baseball team howled with laughter at the line for weeks! It became "the line" du jour. I wonder why it resonated so much with us then, and me to this day?
Tonight, a great cover by a great band, CCR doing Cotton Fields:

And now, amazingly almost 40 years later, John Fogerty doing the same song:

Which do you prefer? I love both.

How about "Whiskey Bottle" by Uncle Tupelo? Great drinkin' song....or sippin'.

I'm a big fan of the band "Iron & Wine" - When I'm drinking bourbon.
As of today they put a new website up, and have free downloads of fully acoustic versions of their last album.
"Resurrection Fern" is a big favorite of mine.
Sipping bourbon and reflecting. Sam Beam (who actually is Iron & Wine) paints great pictures in my mind.

He was just on Austin City Limits in November, and is going to be on Leno on January 5th.

Among others, a couple of favorites are: Skynyrd's "Simple Man" and Merle Haggard with "I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink".
