View Full Version : What can you tell me about Conecuh Ridge Bourbon???

I just came across this Clyde May and Conecuh Ridge Sour Mash Bourbon. what is the general opinion of this sprirt? I know it can be found at Binny's but I have not found it in Wisconsin yet. Is this a KBD product. and is it worth the price?
This stuff has a history.
Clyde May is an infamaous bootlegger.
Are they still in business?
I heard the owner got busted because he personally tried to deliver a case of the stuff to an 18 year old Lady.
Ok, I love 18 yo women as much as the next hetero, but in 'Bama you gotta watch 'yo self.
I also have heard that it taste like it has Mrs. Buttersworth syrup as a flavor profile.

Mainly, I don't know. I am pretty sure he never got his distillery going for production output. I think the last I heard the product was sourced from Heaven Hill.
It is (or was) on the shelves here, but was so expensive (about $40) that I never even gave it a try. I would have tried it at any price if it had been produced at his own distillery, but I wasn't going that high for outsourced whiskey.

This stuff is still being made but Clyde May's son Ken is no longer involved with the company. I read that it was distilled in Kentucky but the water used was from some spring in Alabama and was trasported by tanker to Ky. for use in mashing and the final product!

First, it isn't bourbon. It is Alabama whiskey.
It's still being sold. It seems, in fact, to be doing well. I figured Kenny would have to be out of it after his little indiscretion. The son of former Brown-Forman Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson was doing marketing for them, perhaps he still is.
They aren't doing anything in Alabama, the proof is that there are no licensed distilled spirits producers in Alabama, according to TTB.
