I haven't purchased anything today.
I just wanted to celebrate Spring with the start of this new thread.

I did however purchase a WLarueW 2005 last week.
If I had to rank the WLarueW's I'd go in this order.

1. 2007
2. 2006
3. 2008
4. 2005

That '07/'06 could flip/flop, I need to do a side-by-side.

Some were critical of the '05 when first released.
Last year I got a bottle and finally tried it, I really like it.

Picked up a handle of ND OGB:BIB. I got this from a place I hit on a long dusty run about a year or two ago, pretty surprised there was any left but then again it looked like they didn't sell much bourbon at this place... The guy said at the proof and size it must be for 100 people and that I'm going to need a lot of Coca Cola! haha

No, but who cares. Great finds... good juice, drink it well.... You will enjoy them.

I picked up a couple handles of W.L. Weller SP 7 yr from 1988 and 2 handles of Cabin Still from 1988 as well... all out of Louisville and all should be tasty...

It was Saturday just past, not today, but ... OFBB 2008, and Buffalo Trace. If these seem ordinary, note that both just became available here in Alabama. 'Tis the most excitement this control state has seen in a long, long while ...

Not cheap, but one of the distillers made a 4 hour trip through the mountains to hand deliver me a bottle of this.

http://www.peachstreetdistillers.com/prod-bourbon.htm

I also like supporting craft distillers and local Colorado businesses. I'm impressed, they've only been around for 3.5 years and started on the bourbon after 1 year in business.

Morgan,

Blanton's Gold is one of my favourites.....although being a SB bourbon obviously differences can be found. I am going to assume you got this from nicks and I will say I have had a few from them and they have all been great. Always sad to get to the end!
Booker's isn't bad, I just wish it was aged longer....12-15 years would be nice!

Also I live in Virginia and it is a control state but I just found out I can special order something not normally carried so I put my first order in for a bottle of VW lot B. Yes sir, that's the one. I bought one a year ago and the one I left behind has been in the back of my mind since. I live near Dallas and work in Houston occasionally and my motel was less than a mile from there, so I can sleep better at night now knowing it's safe at home.

And the tax strip Old Charter was tempting, but I could go get 10 cases of the same bottles from the 70's in Dallas. It's everywhere up there.

I stopped in Greenville Indiana this morning at one of my favorite stores. I can't ever seem to remember the name though... Party outlet - I think, anyway I fondled a bunch of the single barrel bourbons and had a tough time making my selection.

I actually just scored 2 bottles. Showed up out of nowhere. First 2 bottles I've seen of it.. had to take both. Pretty great stuff there.

Also picked up a bottle of Rarebreed to add to the bunker, and another RR90.

Also saw the new Rogue Whiskey (guessing it's 100% barley whiskey) .. anyone tried this yet?

I got home from dinner with the wife and in-laws and apparently I won a Venetian Decanter of OFitz BIB off Ebay....bottled in 1966, my lucky year. Anyway, I bid halfheartedly and won for half of what I saw the last one go for, so no too bad. I didn't mean to win -- it was $44 a little more than I wanted to spend, but I'll try not to complain. That's a real dusty and my first bourbon purchase from Ebay.

Just bought this 2 very interesting bottles on E-bay recently. One is an Old Stagg 1966-1972. The other is a real bargain. A Japanese bottling of 20 years old bourbon from Michters. I am not sure if this comes from the same barrels as the A. H Hirsch 20 but there is a big chance I would guess. The best thing of all is that it comes at 101 proof. Maybe I come back to these bottles when I get them home.

EG, one off the cuffer, that a North Carolina Control State buyer can get, is Virgin Bourbon. 7yrs old, 101 proof, and around $13. I'm convinced it's the same juice as the Old Ezra 7yr 101, which I think is terrific. Both, probably sourced from HH.

Not intentionally when I initially had the idea, but eventually, my quest today was to find somewhere open on Easter where I could procure an EC12. I did track one down, but the joke was on me, because even though I checked the cork, it was an extremely musty, sharp, moldy tasting bottle -- serves me right for liquor shopping on the second coming. Anyway, it's like every other one of these is bad and I know the difference between good and bad.

I guess it'll just be more-expensive-than-usual cooking bourbon. I'm more than a little disappointed, though . . . I'd hate to have to stop buying this brand, as it's my favorite, but that's almost $60 dropped on rotten whiskey since September. At least I got one of those bottles replaced from the store.

There's not much in the way of identifying marks on this bottle beyond what might be considered BS. All it says is that it was from warehouse Z, checked by Ken Pierce and approved by George Something. The Character is described as rich & velvety.

On the way to the Sampler next week, if you get a chance, stop at Cork and bottle and see if they still offer the 1792 in the single barrel, special barrel purchase offering. I have never had it but have heard it was good. I too have a bottle of 1792 from when it was first released and it isn't bad whiskey!

Hey Oscar,
On the way to the Sampler next week,..........

I won't be making it to the Sampler.
My wife took a turn for the worse and had surgery today.

But on a lighter note, I did purchase something today.
Call me a nerdy collector if you must, but I saw the new labels of Russell's Resrve 90 Bourbon and Rye today.
Of course I had to get them.

That gives me 31 different Turkey labels.

Actually it was yesterday, but picked up a bottle of WT101. I've been enjoying it at bar gigs, and now have a bottle at the house. I mostly drank it neat on gigs (though the bar I played at last night made me their house 7-up-ified sweet Wisconsin OF's using Turkey 101...interesting spin on what should really be called the Cheesehead cocktail or something.) I just made an Old Fashioned using Robert Hess's recipe...outstanding! (I did add a couple drops of Fee's orange bitters along with the regular Angostura...works well.)

I'm just a bourbonewbie, but I'm starting to add bottles. Where to hide my stash.... :D

Platinum would actually be pewter, the 17 year, and the indented circle would the Legend Single Barrel (see centered in photo, sorry about the others as I didn't feel like moving everything); therefore making me wonder if you have the regular issue Legend?

I used to have 3 Heritages now I am down to 2 and will soon have an extra Legend SB, I won't say I can't be talked out of the extra(s) but it is pretty doubtful.

Long time reader...first time poster.

Went to the local beverage store to get myself a wheater (Weller SR 7/90)...and found something else.

Eagle Rare 10/101, the old stuff not in the pretty bottle, which i have heard rave reviews and that it is out of production.

1 ETL
1 Old Fitz BIB
1 BIB 6 yr Heaven Hill Old Style Bourbon (BTW, this an EXTREMELY dark and stellar bourbon. A steal at $10.99)

Hey, man . . . checking the NH Liquor Store website, I've noticed that they haven't been re-stocking the Baby Saz. A couple months ago they had a bunch in Portsmouth, but now the only place in our neck of the woods that carries it is one of the Hampton stores (I'm imagining the bigger one). Nashua has some & a couple are in Bedford, but those are both a trek. Anyway, thought you'd like to know -- I'm sure you've been checking it out. If you spend $75 at the NH store right now, they're giving you a $10 gift card! Have fun shopping.

Today I bought a bottle of Wild Turkey 101. It wasn't the plan but the local liquor store was closing out some gift sets so I picked up the bottle along with 2 glasses for $1.00 more than the bottle alone. And it has been some time since I had WT in my stock so I figured why not.

Those are nice glasses. I have six that I found on "clearance" at a place where I think they may have removed the glasses from the packages to sell them separately - can't be sure and I didn't ask, but they are the same as those packaged with the 101.

I have the Rare Breed wooden box with two glasses, but the glasses that came with the 101 seem to be thicker/heavier.

I had a very strange experience this weekend, bourbon kept falling into my shopping cart, despite having stocked up over the sampler weekend.

Falling in were:
EWSB 1996
OC 8 (for $10.99)
BT Kahn's select single barrell which I'm not enjoying as much as the last bottle I got.

A bottle of Kahn's select RHF almost fell into my cart too, but I told it my wife would kill me if I got any more, even though it was about $10 cheaper than I see it for around here. So it jumped back on the shelf.

The place that had the EWSB also had a bunch of crazy top shelf stuff that I had never seen in a store before, including what looked like contemporary Hirsch.

Picked up a very dusty fifth of Kentucky Tavern BIB. Distilled at DSP-KY-240 (Taylor and Williams) and bottled at DSP-KY-24 (Glenmore). The bottle's got metric and customary measures on it, so I guess it's from the 1980 range. I'm pretty pumped to try it!

BTAC WLW 2007 and 2008, ORVW90, the little gimmicky 350 of OF100 (hey, only $9); and a bottle of some bizarre Carstairs something for under 10 bucks dated from 83. No clue if it's any good, I highly doubt that it is at all. (I bet on awful) but hey, I'd never seen it around and for that price if it's worse then vodka I won't care.

This is my party bourbon at the moment. Cheap enough to share out to people mixing or having a shot and interesting enough to sip away at. It is surprisingly good for how it is packaged and the price point. I put it well ahead of the other bourbons at its price point that I have tried.

Greg,

I did, and I was a little confused by it. It's a legit federal tax stamp with numbers and everything, and the bottle has both metric and standard units on it. Those two things would make me think it's from the 1980-81 range. The number on the bottom of the bottle is an 84, though, and there's a UPC on the bottle. I'm not quite sure how that jives with my normal rules of thumb for dating bottles.

Oh, well, the real important number is DSP-KY-16. I've got another six or seven liters of faux-tax-stripped Old Fitz BIB from around 1991-92, and they've been delicious so far.

I was in KY on Sunday and got a few things via trade and commerence.
Met face to face with some SB.com people at DougDog's place also met some bourbon historians and bottlers, whom I knew and knew of, now I can call them friends.

(1) Harper BHC gold vein bottle, actually in a trade with Mike of MA it finally made it to me after changing hands.
(2) Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, The Bourbon Society bottle, the good one, not the WW bottle. When asked what went wrong with the WW bottle Jimmy Russell said that, I am paraprasing, "The boys took some liberites with someone else's whiskey."
(3) Four Roses Single Barrel, The Bourbon Society bottle, one of the members heard I was looking for one and got it for me and I did not know it until Sunday.
(4 & 5) Four Roses Yellow Label 750 ml because they had no 1.75 handles and two JTS Brown BIB.
I stopped at The Liquor Barn in Louisville on Monday for these and some Weller 12yo but no Weller 12 was available.

I had a real dilema today, I read on the forum about Eagle rare 17 yr, and was sure I had seen it at a store in town. When I got there I found it was the 10 yr 90 proof. It was $67 Cdn a bit more that $10 over Knob Creek which I also read here was overpriced. however I don't think you can compare Canadian prices to American. I also saw Evan Williams single barrel at $50. So I bought the Buffalo Trace. After racing home and tasting the Buffalo Trace I was wishing I had picked one of the other 2. Search some more, you'll find quite a bit of discussion regarding this bottle. I don't know that anyone ever verified, but the assumption was pretty much a blatant lie that it is BIB Bourbon from DSP KY 16 as it states on the bottle. When I was working in St Louis a couple winters ago it was everywhere in abundance! I tasted it and honestly thought it was decent, kind of even tasted like SW so who knows...

I'm not sure this is the exact cut-off of the real SW juice, but I believe the rule of thumb put forth by Julian a few years ago is that:

Tall Bottle = SW = Mmmmmm
Squat Bottle = not SW

I think they've been "using up old labels" that state DSP 16 for many years now...
