Had been sipping the last remnants of a baby Sazerac for a couple weeks - drank the final few drops last night.

Like many whiskeys, it seemed to improve after sitting open for several days; is this simply the mutability of perception or a measurable change in the chemical/physical composition of the liquid?

With only a single bottle in reserve, I need to stock up, as thus far this is my favorite "everyday" dram.

Another BT bites it.

Seriously considering buying a case of this. BT and ER 10/90 don't last long over here.

Just killed the last dregs of my EW black label. Dumped the last in my glass of diet A&W...not bad, but needs something...few drops of Angostura bitters...hmm, not too shabby! Not a bad bottle for as little as it costs ($12.99 for a liter bottle at Woodman's in WI)

I started the original version of this thread because I had observed, in myself and others, the practice of keeping a bottle with one drink left in it for a very long time, because we didn't want to say goodbye to a particularly beloved bottle. I seem, through the help of everyone here, to have broken myself of that habit.

Now I open something, drink it enthusiastically until it is about half empty, and stop there instead.

If I understand the pathology correctly, that's not an improvement.

My drinking habits are reversed. I'll slowly work my way through the first half of a bottle. Once it gets close to 40% left, that's the only drink I focus on until it's gone.

I really get to enjoy a visit the same bourbon over a few nights and I also make room for something new.

Do I qualify for pre-nervosa support counseling?

Or if there is something left in the bottle and your still nervous what kind of nervosa is that?

Killed of this bottle of RR Rye this morning was not a favorite of mine but this last pour taste pretty good. Finished off a bottle of Elijah Craig 12, already have a back up in the bunker.

Also to kick the bucket was a bottle of ETL. After two pours, I miscalculated how much was left and decided to pour the rest of the bottle.. whoops... lot more then I realized! ohh well , went out with a bang.

That one needed a replacment and one was picked up right away.

I was a bit annoyed because the tag said $29, which is a good price around here, paid for it along with Long Trail's Doulbe IPA.. it wasn't til later I realized that my total seemed off. Sure enough they charged me $34 for the ETL, which I would have passed on and gotten elsewhere.

it's only $5... but it's still $5 ...which adds up fast.

Last night I killed an Old Ezra 7/101 which is a very tasty drink -- I wish it was easier to get another one. I also consolidated & reduced my Old Fitz BIB '66 to a 200ml and killed off a 2008 ER17 this afternoon in Derby prep. I have another ER17 in the bunker but can't imagine opening it anytime soon. . . I think it's a definite follower . . . it tasted delicious last night after a couple Old Ezras, but was bitter and tannic and cognac-y to me today when I hit it first. I'll save the next one for a special occasion.

I'm killing bottles left & right.

Finished off my handle of ND OGD:BIB. I don't really enjoy the current OGD expressions that much but this stuff drinks like premium bourbon! Sucks, I have another but I can't remember if the tax strip broke before or after I bought it (This is the first thing I look at with an older bottle like that and I don't think it was broken when I bought it but when I got home I couldn't remember specifically checking that one... :/ ) so I'll probably never drink it. Maybe if I leave it open it can serve as an air freshener or something... :/

Working on finishing a bottle of BH and a Lot B. Gotta clear room for a bottle of Arak and more rye.

I just finished a Julio's Elmer T. Lee today and I wasn't especially sad to make room in the cabinet. I kept going back and forth on this one, but even when I was enjoying it, I didn't enjoy it that much. I will certainly get another bottle at some point, but I won't be running out to re-visit this one anytime soon.

While not in the same league as the SW era, it's far better than any of the more recent bottlings I've had.

Gus,

I too had a bottle of the Fitz BIB from '01 and enjoyed it very much. I hadn't set my expectations too high since it wasn't SW but I was pleasantly surprised.

Brian,

Nice neighbor. What's the proof on that bottle? Even at 80 pf, it's still a very good pour. Mine had more flavor and depth than I would have expected in an 80pf bourbon. If the color is dark and amber, you're probably looking at something quite a bit older than 4 years; considered glut whiskey. Open and enjoy and let us know what you think.

He could change it to a bottle of brown vodka aka Canadian whiskey.

naw... that would be to violent. It may discourage Canadian whiskey drinkers from participating.
