I was at a wedding this past weekend for one of my cousins. It was nicely done and the bride, of course, was beautiful and the groom (my cousin) was surprisingly sober.

Following the service there was a Happy Hour prior to dinner. The happiest part was that it was an open bar. They had several beers, Smirnoff Vodka, high end Scotch and Gin, Seagrams 7, but the only bourbon they had was Old Crow. Wow; hard to believe based on the other liquors.

Don't get me wrong, I drank it....it was bourbon and free. It just seemed strange.

My company chirstmas party every year has a whos whos of rum, vodka and tequila. When it comes to bourbon, Jim Beam.

I am willing to bet whoever paid for the open bar, Old Crow is their favorite pour or one that they remember as a good one. At my brothers wedding they had a open bar and he got to pick what was on it from a list.

Seagrams 7, Smirnoff and Crow are all on the same shelf when takiing price into account. Sounds like they spent the extra on the Scotch and Gin...if you say they were better labels. Maybe the Bride liked Scotch and Gin...or that might have been what their group drinks most often???

It could have been worse. Just last week I found myself at a bar who's only bourbon was Jim Beam White! I didn't even bother asking if they had any rye...

You talk like that's a rare thing! Pretty common around here, although most do have MM as well. Oh and 20 different flavored vodkas.

I don't have the best memory but I'm pretty sure that this is the first time I was ever at a bar that only had JBW, usually I'm able to opt for some MM instead. Most around here, in addition to those two, have WT (99% of the time it's WT80) and occasionally OGD and WR. Definitely sorry to hear that this (having only JBW) is common in some places!

I appreciate your input but the shelves in Austin must be different that OKC. Hear Crow is bottom shelf and Smirnoff and Seagrams are middle shelf. And for those who mentioned JBW, I personally don't have a problem with that. Not my favorite by any means but still a pretty good pour, especially compared to Crow. If they had been pouring that I would have had 5 doubles instead of the 3 I did have. Yes, 3 double. Like I sasid, it was free.
