I've got a collection of over 250 bottles thus far but I have just completed what was a challenge. Trying to locate and purchase at a decent price all 32 of the Makers Mark NFL team dipped bottles. Yeah, I know it's a little much but it looks cool as heck after I finally completed it. I was just wondering if anyone else here Bourbonia has been collecting these bottles... We should see about putting pictures up of our various collections. It would be interesting for me at least to see how others display their 'prizes' It's been a challenge fitting 250+ bottles in a studio apt in NYC, I'll tell ya that! http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I was suprised to see MM bottles dipped in Brown & Orange last time I went to the state store. Usually ohio is one of the states EXCLUDED from all the special edition wax dippings (like the red white & blue ones). It was nice to feels included for once.

Jeez Mark, are you nuts? 32 bottles that you can't drink? I've got about six, and that's enough http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I have but 2 of these MM distributions; one is red and gold, and the other silver and black. Pretty cool though. Having the whole set would be exceptionally cool.

I have about 45 bottles of bourbon, of which at least 35 are open. Looking at the stuff just doesnt get it for me. I drive my Corvettes and I drink my bourbon (not simultaneously!). No trailer queens in my garage!

I'll go out and shoot a picture of my collection today. I like the idea of seeing pictures of people's stash. Bobby! Lets see a shot of the bourbo-bunker!

Jim, The 49'rs bottle you have can easily fetch $100 on ebay right now and the Riaders is worth about $50 so hold on to them! The 49'rs bottle was limited to 600 that's why that one is hard to find for a lot of people trying to complete their sets. The rarest was the chargers with 300. Tom, even the Cleveland Browns you spoke of is fetching about 35-40 so if you could get them for about $22 which was is what most are selling for in their regional selling area you can make a bit.... As for having bottles not open but only to look at, most bottles I buy (with the exception of high dollar stuff Distillers Masterpiece, 23 Pappy etc,) I buy 2 of. One for the collection and one for consumption.

Yeah I know how you felt Tom. The whole purpose of these "regional" dippings as makers calls them was to see that people all over can finally have a chance at rare dippings in their areas. Now if they would do Keeneland bottles around the U.S. that would be progress.

I now seem to have between 20+ bottles at most times and at the moment, and right now EVERY ONE of them is open. While I will feel guilty when some of the "rarer" ones are empty, I dont have enough $$ to buy bottles that I dont drink http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif , Even if I paid like $200 for Distillers Masterpiece or Hirsch 20, the curiousity would soon get to me.

Oh need not worry Tom, eventually they will be opened. Like when I get married next year, when I buy a house, and eventually have a kid. But as for now while they are available they are proudly diplayed as part of a collection. I have two hobbies, one is drinking bourbon and the other is collecting it. http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smirk.gif

'Dox, I agree. It runs alot more, but I like to buy two. Obviously one to drink, and the other to display. Is that like having your cake, and eating it too!? http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/shocked.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif See ya, H'wood http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif

Well, actually it's eating your cake, then still having it.
It's always been backwards and it is also quite doable, you have your cake......you eat it too......... Now here comes the part we all have a problem with.........you don't have any more cake.........BBBWWWAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH. Even whining doesn't change this!
For all this to make sense in the context of this forum substitute Bourbon for Cake and Eat for Drink.........Oh no Now it has become even more complicated, throw in a few Bourbon balls and a country ham............ http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I tend to be a lot more like mark (keep 1 bottle of everything rare for display, and another to drink (and maybe more in 'storage')... Dig the well before you are thirsty i guess... I try to 'stockpile' bourbons that i know i will not be able to get later on, and i attempt to use some restraint in the amounts of those 'rare' bourbons that i consume... I would hate to drink my last hirsch and know that i can get no more of it...

That is actually a big reason i havent gotten too much into wine... I don't like the idea that something i try today will be rotten a few days from now... Or the idea that a wine i buy today will have changed (maybe for the better, maybe for the worse) in a few years...

I am sure at some point when all the 'stock' i have is depleted of these rare bourbons, they will be taken off the shelf and enjoyed, hopefully that will be a long time from now... But I am definitely aware that you can't take it with you.

Don't feel bad for the bournons on the shelf, they will be enjoyed eventually http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

I had just recently been asked to aquire a couple of those fancy wax dipped bottles for someone. I just couldnt resist posting a picture of them before passing them on:

Brown and Orange: The Cleveland Browns (who just made the playoffs yesterday)

Scarlet & Grey: The Ohio State Buckeyes, who play Miami in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship on Friday.

I couldnt find any Bengals bottles. . . .

Tom that's cool I didn't even know Makers made a bottle for the Buckeyes for the Fiesta Bowl. Nice one! Here's a pic of the whole 32 NFl series, the other pic doesn't want to seem to be cooperating anymore...

That'd be cool, I'd love to see pics of everyone's collections or rare bottles they have accumulated over the years. Plus, maybe we can all get ideas on different ways of displaying our 'prizes' from each other. Make it so Tom! http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/cool.gif
