I just finished my '08 Weller last night, lasted nearly a year. I haven't bought the '09 yet, and I think I can find either one. I know I'll get another '08 while I can, but is the '09 significantly different enough or at least "as good as" to get both?

Yeah I'd agree with that.
The '07 is my favorite, the '08 has a bit to much char and the '09 is a little hot, although I like all of 'em.
But if you can get them in the low to mid 60 dollar price range you should get both of them.

Thanks for the replies I think I'll get both. The barrel char in the bottom of the empty was what made me want a replacement, I really like that unfiltered texture.

I recently finished 3 different years of WLW and I was surprised that I didn't mind the char when poured over cracked ice. I would not have guessed that going into the tasting.

Chewin' on the char is the silver lining when you realize you're gonna have to be laying that bottle to rest. :yum:

A few days ago. came into a still-reasonable priced 07 bottle. My 06 is irreplaceable imho but am eventually going to have pay the piper for 08 & 09 bottles....the price one pays for one's fav bourbon I guess. Never tried 05.....is it worth hunting with so many 08s & 09s available.....in other wordds, would my time & $$ be better served getting/trying these instead of hunting down 05 & more 06 and 07?

The 05 and 06 split around here. Half this group likes the 06 as the #1 WLW and the other like the 05. I am an 05 lover. That is what I look for....

In the greater scheme of things... all of the WLWs are great, so get the ones easy for you to pick up and enjoy...

Recall reading here a long time back how good the 06 was which prompted me to buy one. Kept it unopened for over a year before giving in to temptation. At the time saw lots of 05s scattered around TN but have not seen it now for well over a year. Will keep looking though....one will turn up sooner or later....fun of the hunt.
