Hi folks. I hope my username doesn't get misunderstood.

Here's a little mini bio:

Name: Larry
Job: Engineer (mostly firmware/software, but now days I wear many hats)
Location: Born, raised, schooled and live in New Orleans
Hobbies: Fishing (in the Mississippi river delta marshes and occasionally offshore), Travel, Fine Dining (how can you help it in N.O.), wine and of course bourbon.

Bourbon experience: I've been to many distilleries on the bourbon trail and have enjoyed drinking bourbon for the last 20 years, though lately I've started to treat myself to some of the finer bottles.

I have visited this forum several times over the years but just recently joined. Looking forward to meeting some fellow bourbonites.

Cheers!

Well, hi Larry. Welcome aboard.

My wife was born and raised in Metairie. She likes bourbon too (there's both an up side and a down side to that  )

Got any favorites?

Hi Scott, thanks for the welcome.

A Metry girl eh? I went down the bayou and married a Cajun girl. (For those who didn't know, New Orleans is not Cajun, it's French/Spanish/Creole.

I have to many favorites. I try to keep 5-7 bourbons on my bar. Right now I have:

17 yo Pappy Van Winkle
10 yo Eagle Rare
Bulliet Bourbon Frontier Whiskey
1792 Ridgemont Reserve
Evan Williams BL NAS

I went down the bayou and married a Cajun girl.

She's Cajun on her father's side. Terrebonne parish.

(For those who didn't know, New Orleans is not Cajun, it's French/Spanish/Creole.

It's even more polyethnic than that. She's German/Irish on her mother's side, and it's an old NO family.

A lot of people from NO have an accent that sounds remarkably like a New Yorker's.

Right now I have:

17 yo Pappy Van Winkle

Not familiar with that one. 15 and 20 yes, 17 no.

Yep, you're right. It's a 15. Sorry for the typo. My netbook has such a small keyboard.

Welcome Larry. Let's see. You've got some nice bourbons. You've been to some of the distilleries on The Bourbon Trail. What more could you want? PARTY! But seriously, hope you like it here. Lot's of info to be found, and lot's of good people to guide you along the way. Cheers! Joe

Welcome to the site! Shouldn't be much confusion with your screen name- A long run of Eagle Rare 101 proof 10 year old was bottled in New Orleans, and the NO abbreviation is frequently used to designate that particular bottling.

You can often find some of us in the "gazebo," our chatroom, in the evenings. I seem to remember that chats are sundays and thursdays but I often see somebody in there every day of the week.

Welcome to the site, and have fun with your bourbon!

Thanks for the welcomes....

As you know, outside of Kentucky New Orleans has one of the strongest historical ties to bourbon. Heck, our most famous street (if you don't count St. Charles Ave.) is Bourbon St.

Dickie Brennan, of the legendary restaurant family here has a place called The Bourbon House. His selection of fine pours is the best in the city. And he frequenty hosts dinners with master distillers. If you find yourself coming down here go online and join the New Orleans Bourbon Society (NOBS) and visit his restaurant for a complementary pour of the BOTM (his, not the one on this board).

Happy Sippin'

Welcome aboard, Larry. New Orleans is one of my favorite places, too. My wife and I went there on two vacations, last year. I wish I could spend more time there.

Strangely, there IS an 18 year old winkle.

I just found out that Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House is bringing Preston Van Winkle down to do a tasting of Van Winkle bourbons. They will be paired with a 5 course meal. Made my reservations yesterday.

Shortly after that, Fred Noe will be visiting the Bourbon House again for another tasting/pairing.

Life is good.
