Hello everyone, another Brisbane based bourbon lover here!
Its great to see an online community dedicated to Bourbon!
However its also depressing reading about all the Stateside members dusty hunts and rare finds, overall cheap liquor prices compared to Australia etc.

The knowledge here is unbelievable and i've enjoyed reading through the topics so decided to join.

Im only 23 but have been enjoying bourbon for 8 years.. I pretty much exhausted tasting the majority of bourbon available here in Australia and branched out into importing my juices about 6 months ago and have come to enjoy some pretty special ones in that time.

I guess ill be seeing you around!

Cheers, B

Welcome aboard, we have a pretty good Australian constituency here. One of which is Morgan ( Pieface) who reminds on a regular basis how spoiled us Americans are when it comes to bourbon. Even one of the moderators on this site is Australian. You guys get it in the short end from Fortune Brands (Jim Beam/Markers Mark) on a pretty consistent basis. Tell us what you have had that you like and don't like. Come join us in chat if you can considering the time change. It's the gazebo top of main forum page. Ask as many questions as you like. Have some fun and make some friends.

Welcome B (is that your name? You don't have any details in your profile)... it's always good to have another Brisbane based member on board! There's a wealth of information here, and great people who love to share it. You may even find there's still some local finds you weren't aware of :D

@p.elliott
My favourites so far have been EWSB 1998, WTRB and Bookers. I also had a Jack Daniels Single Barrel which was particularly good.

The JDSB promted me to impulse purchase a Silver Select when i saw it on the shelf, which i was extremely dissapointed. The JDSB had a great long lasting fruity finish, whereas my SS bottle lacked any kind of depth and finish that i loved from the SB.. I guess thats why i became so interested. There can be such differences from bottle to bottle.

My least favoured bottles have been as mentioned before the JDSS also Blantons SB and WT 12yo. I tried the 12yo before my bottle of Rare Breed so was a bit apprehensive in buying the rare breed. My GF happened to gift it to me for Christmas and i was very pleasantly surprised.

So in my short experience ive had let downs followed by really good bottles and a good drop followed by a disappointing one. :D

@camduncan - What local finds could you point me towards? Ive already found a BT and am aware of Crubar and 5th elements crudely high prices. Also purchased a WT Tradition from the airport about 5-6 weeks ago :D

The exceptions to this are what can be found at 'botique' type stores like crubar, Burwood Cellars and www.nicks.com.au (http://www.nicks.com.au) I don't include them in my list as they are single store outlets and don't have national coverage. Their range can also vary from month-to-month.

There's a few of us attending from here, should be a good night.

Between the Brisbane members, we have some great bourbon, we should get together for a tasting....what area are you in?
Cheers

A shop I would reccomend would be Spiro's at Toowong, they have a great selection including things like OGD 114. Neil (lonemango) could give you a better idea of their range/pricing

I went to Spiros at Paddington a few weeks back and was disappointed their selection was nothing out of the ordinary apart from some Buffalo Trace. I asked if each store had the same stock and the guy said yes. Sounds like the Toowong one does have a better range though if they sell OGD. :smiley_acbt:

I've wanted to try an OGD bottle for a while now, so only question is 'How much?'

I can't recall...possibly $110 although that isn't too much more than a guess.

If you have the $$ I heartily recommend the OGD114. Maybe my palate ain't refined enough but it drinks as good as, or better depending on the night as WT12 and Lot b calibre whiskies.

Best Beam whiskey I have got to try by a handy margin. Well worth getting a bottle or two if you are doing a US order IMO...

Objectively, probably not...

But subjectively, on it's night, OGD has beaten them out for my personal enjoyment and that is what sippin' is about for me :)
