Does anyone know what the release date for this years edition of George T Stagg is supposed to be?

A cyber buddy on a gun board living in the same area as me mentioned in a thread that a friend of his brother's owned a liquor store, so I asked if he could get me a bottle of GTS.

A couple days later he sent me a message saying he had 3 bottles coming in, then confessed it was 4 but after I talked it up he was keeping 1 for himself:crazy:

I'd like to have the wife pick up my bottles before he gets a taste and goes back for an additional bottle (or 2):grin:

It was out in KY the last week of September last year. That was the earliest I remember.
But usally mid October.
Seems like we know when by now.

2000 for the Sazerac (original 3) and 2006 for the Handy.

I noticed the Stagg is almost 17 yrs old..... Isn't most Staggs 15 yrs?

Would this be the oldest Stagg ever released?

Picked up two bottles yesterday here in the Louisville area. Can't wait to try it. Still have a bottle of 2009 Thomas Handy I need to open. I hear that isn't too bad either.

So, I have my bottle of '10 Stagg sitting on my counter: that stuff looks like watered down coffee! I'm so anxious to try it. I've never had it before.

But before I do, I need your help. My question is: how do I drink it?

I hear of people cutting it with water, but the question is, how much? And is it totally necessary? The highest proof bourbon I've ever had in my life is OWA, so this is way, way higher than I've ever had.

Any suggestions by Stagg fans on nosing, drinking, etc. would be welcome.

Picked up a bottle of the 2010 G.T. Stagg along with 2 of the PVW 15 y/o earlier this week in the Chicago suburbs. PVW on the menu for 2-nite!

I would dilute it to 120 proof or so, then nose and taste it as you would any other bourbon. If it's still too fierce, try diluting it to 105 proof or so.

I dilute mine to about 100 proof, but I'm a wimp.

some people prefer barrel strength neat. the trick is very small sips, not a double shot down the gullet.

Try it neat...if it's too much for you add a drop of water...still to hot, add another drop...repeat as needed...your glass will be empty long before you over-dilute it.:slappin:

If you dilute it use distilled water or RO treated water and ad a drop at a time. Use an eye dropper.

If you drink it neat, let your mouth water a bit before taking a sip. your saliva will make it a bit easier on your throat tissues.

I gotta give Barturtle credit for that last bit of advise.

I almost always drink it neat. Outdoors in the summer time would be about the only time I might add an ice cube.

Something I enjoy doing with the higher octane juice ( over 100, barrel proofs) is to take a small snifter or tulip whiskey glass (someone here uses one in their avatar), then freeze some quality water in one of those small ice cube trays that makes 1/2 inch cubes. I put 1 cube in a couple oz of bourbon, as I mellow out so does the drink, opening up new flavors with each sip.
