In a move sure to provoke positive responses among SBers, a number of Beam's most beloved whiskeys have a new pricepoint in the State of Michigan as of May 1, 2011:

Basil Hayden: up $1.99 to $39.95
Riš: up $1.99 to $46.96
Booker's: up $2.00 to $56.98
Knob Creek: up 99˘ to $34.96

Any thoughts? Anybody else, especially in control states, seeing price increases?

Josh, can't point to anything specific but in looking at prices recently online in various Kentucky outlets (for bourbon in general, not any one company) my sense is they keep going up.

There are still some excellent values, but more at the lower end of the range I'd say.

I can appreciate that aged whiskey is at a premium today, but I hope the increases over the years do not stall the bourbon renaissance.

Knob Creek though is still a good value.

Well put. What gets my goat is that Riš, BH and Booker's are getting $2 praise increases, but no improvements whatsoever. BH is still 80 proof, Riš is still NAS, and are now even worse deals than they were before.

Booker's is still NAS, and is more expensive than almost all of its direct competion. Rare Breed at around $40 or Booker's for around $60. That's a no-brainer as the kids say.

Why improve the steak when the sizzle keeps selling.

Last year the OLCC bumped the price of everything by 50˘.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again this year.

First I'd like to know if this is just passed along prices from Beam or if MI is making an adjustment for what ever reason.
If it's from Beam you can conclude as to what's selling good.
With that said I have to ask, is [ri]1 really a hit?
And that over packaged Basil must be doing good too.

Robert : Based on what you have to pay? I suppose so. Those other prices are just way to high for what it is.

I have often wondered about this. For example I have watched the price of WT101 go up and down by a dollar for the past year, and in the most recent update it is now down a buck.

Also FWIW the 50ml bottles of JBW, JBB and RS are all being increased by $0.51.

I would really love to hear someone from the State or even one of the whole sellers explain the seemingly random price fluctuations.

I don't buy Beam products very often so I haven't noticed a change locally (No KY).

The PS is quoting:
Basil Hayden --- $32.49
Riš --- $47.95 (!)
Booker's --- $45.99
Knob Creek --- $27.99

May just be a Michigan thing....

True but Old Town is quoting Booker's (the regular one) at $53.00. It can vary...
