The little bro is getting married and I would like to get him the Old Rip 23 decanter set for a gift. I know I can go to eBay and pay twice what these retailed for, but I thought I would throw this out to the SB community and see if someone could help me out with locating one of these for sale at retail.

I've read forums where people passed on these things for $350, which is what they retailed for when they were released.

Could someone point me in the direction of where I could find one for a reasonable price online or at a store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There maybe even be a special "thanks" gift in it for the person (weller 12 or maybe something that can't be had in your parts).

Thanks

If you're willing to venture down to the North Metro Atlanta area then Total Wine on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw and Minks on Delk Road in Marietta both had one the last time I stopped by.

Total wine did not have one when I was there this weekend picking up my PVW.

You're a wonderful brother. However, I'd be slightly afraid the bottle might detract from the other biggest acquisition of his life - a wife!

What would you offer in trade for one? Cash is not an option for the extra I have stashed.

I would say maybe it'd be a good idea to DM the OP'er so any lurkers don't go snag something up from under you

Its stashed in my closet. I hope the lurkers don't find it there.

Guys,

Thanks for all the responses. I've PM'd the people back with solid leads. If I could drive and pick one up that would be ideal. I would rather not ship one because I think I would be a nervous wreck until it arrived safely. I'm in Chattanooga, so Atlanta and South Carolina are possibilities for a road trip. Keep em coming. PM me if you have specific info because as others have said, non SB members poach off forums like this.

Thanks again.

Bump this...anyone have any luck tracking these down in a retail store. I need to get my hands on one. Can pm if you have, I would really appreciate the help here. Ive been striking out and I will not go ebay prices for this when people have still seen $350 retail prices over the last 6 months.

Thanks,
RD

Also quick question as I had never seen this in any detail on articles or on here. The decanter bottle is 750ml, correct?

I'm so close to picking one of these up locally. Trying to haggle these liquor stores down to a reasonable price....they are all marking them up.

Just curious how much? Found one today for $350 which seems to be the retail price from everywhere I've looked.

Scoring one for under 400 seems tough in my parts.

I am just trying to find someone that can help, we get none here in Alabama and I have seen zero in Atlanta and Nashville. It's been my nemesis and I again will say I will never pay ebay prices. If anyone can help out send me a private message and ill do whatever I can. I was looking for that $350 price.

Thanks guys.

I can get 2 cases of the 23 in Atlanta, looking for the LE decanter set which is the hard one.

Anyone else help a bourbon brother out? You don't know how much I would appreciate this one score.

I hate to nit-pic here but y'all are talking about two different bourbons.
Those being;
Pappy Van Winkle 23yo 95.6prf
and
Old Rip Van Winkle 23yo 114prf
There is a difference.
Please don't take this the wrong way, I ain't hating on no one.

And one of them was bottled in Franfort!!!

Yeah I know oscar, just was saying that the basic bottling of the vw23 aren't what I was looking for. Still can't believe they screwed up the Franfort when I saw the label, had a laugh.
