Also wondering which bowman bourbon barrel you would go with.

The PS AAA is sold out, it was a very tasty value pour. They still have the regular bottling of it. The other I've tried are now sold out so I can't help you with that. I replied on your other thread regarding the Bowman.

I haven't had any of TPS SBs but a friend did a tasting of the
Bowmans and felt that # 5 was the better of the two bourbon
selections (tho' both come in behind the Bowman Gift Shop
version.)

If he likes wheaters I have a bottle of the Bernheim. Incredibly quaffable with a small sticker price.

You can read about JP 18 in this thread (http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14552). There
a few other JP SBs discussed as well.

If it was between the bowman barrel 5 and the willet 3665 13 year would you have a preference?

I have not had the bowman #5 but it is on the to do list. I did have the Willett 3665 and did enjoy especially with just a splash of water. I think the TPS description even mentions that it opens up with some water. I would do it again for sure. But my next purchase will be the Bowman to give it a shot.

Bernheim is straight wheat whiskey, not a wheater, which is what we call a wheated bourbon. They are two very different animals.

Oops. That'll teach me to give advice before I know my butt from a hole in the ground.

The JPS is S-W and is excellent; better than the 17 yo JPS I have had.

The other SBs you mention are good but not great.

Agreed. I have a JPS 17 that I like, I have a TPS JPS 18 that I love. I have the Willett 14a 17 yr wheater, also excellent. But, I have the 1792 and do not like it at all compared to the regular bottle. For me, if you are looking at northern KY for retailer selection single barrels, you have to hit Party Source and Cork n Bottle. CnB has done some nice Wellers, and their ETLs are always solid.

That one throws off more people than you realize, don't sweat it.
