I was at a local liquor store yesterday day and noticed some WT101 750's with a new top on them. They have the new style front label but the top had a strip stamp over the cork cap with the caption Wild Turkey 101. It was then sealed with some clear shrink film instead of the familiar foil neck band with perforated pull tab. It was definitely attention getting but I'm not sure which I like better!

Yeah I noticed that too. I actually took a photo with my phone of the two of them and was going to post as to which was the newest under the new label as I didn't know. I haven't had any of the new label 101 yet as I've got too many other WTs open right now. Any thoughts on the whiskey under the new style label and now new style cap?

I bought one of those last weekend. The new way seems a little cheaper, but there's nothing really wrong with it. I don't really care one way or the other, it's the whiskey inside that matters.

a bit off topic.. but i absolutely hate the new slogan.. "give em the bird"

i see them posting it on FB all the time. It just sounds so low brow and reminds me of dumb college drunks.

While I concur, I think it's a good marketing strategy. They're obviously targeting the college bourbon-guzzling crowd. As nice as it is to target those who actually appreciate the stuff, the marketing people know that the college bourbon crowd is where the money can be made. Plus it won't hurt them in most markets since people (in general) don't view Wild Turkey as a top shelf product, but more as a whiskey to take in a shot glass.

I agree completely, chefnash51. I guess the traditional marketing approach was not getting the job done, and they made a radical change. Too radical for me. I wonder how it will work out?

This is right on the money (so to speak). Not only aee you targeting the audience with the greatest percentage of their income dedicated to booze, they home in the long run to make them loyal to the brand NOW, so they will continue to drink it later. Nobody wants to be thought of as an "old man's drink" and relegated to old shot and beer joints.

The "Give em the bird" ad campain is coming from Campari not WT, it's their style.
