Old Forester's new look has been revealed:

13109

Signature will be in similar bottles, but with 100 proof on the label.

I like the new look. Old Timey but classy. I really like the use of gold, but that might be just b/c I was raised a Purdue fan.

CUE THE SNARKY REMARKS ABOUT HOW OLD FORESTER SUCKS.

I think it is a terrific look. So, they are keeping the Signature name for the 100 proof?

Big fan of Old Forester, here. Especially, the Signature.

Thumbs down here. Old Forester already has the definitive old timey classic label.

(Waiting for the inevitable Old Grand-Dad reboot...)

I've seen worse label upgrades (OWA and WSR). I kind of like this one but it does remind me of an Old Pulteney bottle.

For the record, I also like Old Forester Signature. It's one of the few I buy by the 1.75L when its on sale.

I still like the even older Old Forester label, best.

Not sure if they are keeping the Signature name. When they sent out a survey about a possible redisign, Signature had been dropped from the label in THAT design (which was slightly different from the one above IIRC), so it's possible that the name is going away.

That's a great looking bottle. I'm curious to see how it impacts their sales.

Yeah, that is slick. I do agree though, the old paper label from the 90's was classy.

I like the classic styling; I think it's a huge improvement over the current bottles. ...but why whisky? Has Old Forester always dropped the e? I can't get behind that, but otherwise it's looking pretty good.

Not too shabby. Much better looking than the current labels. I hope the 100 proof stays around- Signature or not!

According to whoever does OF's Facebook page, Signature will still be Signature, even with the new label.

I like the look too.

I've always got a soft spot for Old Forester 100 proof versions, have several bondeds, 100 proof's, and now will have to pick up a few signatures before I see the new labels around here.

Old Forester has dropped the e since at least the late 80's.

Old Forester, like Maker's Mark, has always been 'whisky'.

The 90's? It was used from the 60's thru the 90's and for no telling how long before that. It was truly a classic.

But, thanks.

Old Forester BiB was my dad's whiskey, and so I have a soft spot for it. I literally teethed on it (it was rubbed on my gums when I was teething). I definitely remember the wide green tax strips. And I still like it, even though it has definitely changed. I have had a few dusties from the 50's and 60's. I've just had a couple of pours of the BiB and am surprised by the butterscotch character, which is definitely reminiscent of the old stuff.

This is resembling a BOTM thread.

Love the new look, and I think the current juice is pretty good, but it gets dismissed due to the awful packaging.

And I love me some dusty DSP-414.

Now can they get a new bottle shape for the birthday bourbon? My god do I hate that bottle.

Yessir, pain in the ass on the bar. But, they make for nifty citronella oil filled lanterns outside in Skeeter Season!

I too miss the old paper label, and the bottle with the 3 dimples on each side. Handy for holding while pouring or drinking out of the bottle for tha matter.

I agree. I drank some OF back in the 60's and the most recent OF I had tasted very similar. The only problem is that it is somewhat harsher than it used to be (referring to alcohol burning sensation), even more so than it was in the 90's and early 2000's.

I knew that bottle had some utility left in it!.

And Jeff - good to hear from you.
Hope things are well in A2.

I just don't like OF, although I have not had the OF Signature 100 proof. I find the standard OF too rough and harsh. Good only for making cough medicine or mixing with Coke.

Did they do away with the "handwritten" guarantee. I liked the history of that. Is it on the small proof part of the label, Is it still "handwritten"?

The "handwritten guarantee" was done by the three bearded guys sitting around the campfire still that was used to make the whiskey.

IOW, marketing hype.

Is it gone from the new bottle? was it traded in for new label marketing hype, done by three clean shaven guys in bifocals and bow ties, with a bunch of letters after their names.

Or the new label is made by a cyborg with a cowboy hat.
