"Welcome to Bourbon Hunters (http://www.bourbonhunters.com/), the television show that will
take you deep into the heart of Kentucky where Bourbon has
been made for more than 200 years by men and women who
have a passion for the secret recipes that have been passed
down from generation to generation."

A Nov. 2011 blog post announces that BH has "...chosen our
3 hosts and canít wait to show them off to America in 2012."

The name makes it sound like the show will be following dusty hunters as they search for old and rare bourbons, but the description gives me the impression the show will be about making - or just drinking - bourbon.

I wonder if it will be as exciting as Swamp People... :skep:

From the website at http://www.bourbonhunters.com/:

...Kentucky is the one place where true Bourbon is made...

It'll be interesting to see the first show, and go from there. Looks like a televised version of the bourbon trail with a little follow the master distiller around thrown in.

It's a bit odd that Popcorn, a notorious moonshiner, is on the front page. You'd think they would want to distance themselves from that side of the industry.

That was the impression I got. Last thing we need is a bunch of wannabe hunters out there stealing OUR bourbon :hot:

They seem to have forgotten a state or two. If I remember the Kentucky tours usually say 95% of bourbon is made in Kentucky. There is another 5% they are forgetting about?

My thoughts exactly.

With that said the show sounds interesting and I will most certainly give it a couple looks.

Hi Everyone - We'd like to introduce ourselves, we are the producers of Bourbon Hunters! It's nice to see a thread opened about our show - We look forward to creating a fun show that showcases both the Bourbon Industry and the great state of Kentucky. What's the show about? Simple enough, it's about Bourbon - from the large distillers to the small batch makers, as well as searching out the rare Bourbons and their Makers. We'll also search out the families who still make Bourbon from their own recipes handed down for generations. It's more than following the Bourbon Trail, it's following the Bourbon Lifestlye.

Most importantly, we could definitely use your help to launch the Pilot -- If you'd like to learn more about the show and how you can help us launch it, visit the Kickstarter page - here's the link:

Thanks and Cheers!

They joined BE.com before SB.com? Rookies!

And don't they know some of the best collections of bourbon and memorabilia are in the possession of our members.

There are three or four "potential" hosts that I hope I don't see on this show.

Good luck with the show!

Randy

Looks like the three hosts are listed on the Kickstarter.com page. At least the girl is hot... :slappin:

I'm guessing Randy won't be donating anything toward the pilot.

On a related note, at our last Michigan Bourbon Hounds gathering, OscarV's wife, Potbanger's wife, The Boozer's wife, ACDetroit's wife and bonneamie's husband came up with an idea for a reality show called "Bourbon Wives (and Pete)"

Now that's a show. Love the title. But shouldn't it be "Bourbon Widows (and Pete)"?

As for the Bourbonhunters hosts, I think those are just pictures that came with the frames.

And, small point, but 'pilot' isn't a euphimism. It's a real word. It doesn't need to be in quotes.

I've seen too many shows like this - focused on topics/areas I love - make it to production and end up so watered down and genericized that they aren't enjoyable to the very folks they make it for.

Just like when major magazines/newspapers write about booze (or any other hobby/lifegroup) they tend to get more wrong than they get right.

I remember when "Finding Nemo" came out - and those of us in the Saltwater/Coral hobby were just dumbfounded by the deleterious effect it had on the price of clownfish, etc. - and the number of stupid people joining the message boards, lost livestock, etc.

All they need is a few hundred thousand viewers just one time hearing that "owning Pappy Van Winkle bourbon makes you a better man," or some such expression, and we'll all be hosed.

Fingers crossed they make no mention of Four Roses or Rittenhouse Rye...

I used to be in the hobby and I know exactly what you mean regarding that movie and the effect it had. :hot:

Hasn't that already happened?

"Bourbon Wives (and Pete)"

You gotta get him in an apron for the pilot.

What an awful font they use for their logo on their homepage. It's so cheesy. I believe it's called broken cowboy. It's the same font they used for that fake whiskey brand in the movie Crazy Heart. It sucked then too (not the movie, just the font).

The font is used EVERYWHERE, and it is incredibly unoriginal.

Yeah, I used to screen print. So I would see this all the time. It is indeed everywhere. Crazy Heart was just the first place that came to mind. Probably memorable because I really enjoy that movie, but the font stuck out like a sore thumb.

I agree this is a scary thought. Seems like the same craze that craft beer and cigars went through back in the 90s. On the good side I do recall a time where there was a lot of high quality cigars available on the cheap as there had been over-production during the high times. Can probably judge where we are at in the cycle by the thickness of Whisky Advocate. At least that seemed to be the case with Cigar Aficianado -- I've got old big fat magazines compared to the current size.

I suspect this isn't a 'real' thing, but a crowd-sourcing if-come proposition. They generate a lot of proposals on Kickstarter and produce whatever gets funded. They try to generate buzz among enthusiasts for the subject, the better to drive people to Kickstarter.

I have some independent producer friends who have used Kickstarter, but that was for projects that I can see people being willing to contribute to, i.e., I'd like to see a documentary made about Nelson Algren so I'm willing to make a contribution. This Bourbon Hunters is a commerial show, the people are doing it to make money, period. Good for them, but why should I finance them for zero return?

Even though they obviously didn't put very much work into this -- and chose a crappy font -- I think what little work they did put in was wasted. It also has a smell of fakery. The 'host search' appears to have been a search through a stock photos library.

Put a show up and maybe I'll watch it but otherwise, who cares?

I should disclose that the producer sent me an email, about the same time as the first post above, in which he said he was going to call me, but he never did.
