I have been traveling quite a bit lately and the bourbon selection at all of the airports has been terrible. Usually, the only bourbons that they have had on hand is either Marker's Mark or Knob Creek. Does anyone know of any airports that carry a better selection? Please let me know the airport and the establishment.

I guess it would also be helpful to know what bourbon you were surprised to see that they were carrying as well.

I cannot confirm this information through personal experience, but according to a friendly NYC shop owner, the airport in Costa Rica had the full Van Winkle line a few months back. I found this quite interesting and would like to know if anyone here can confirm.

I noticed a better than usual bourbon selection at a bar at O'Hare this week, while ony way to my flight from Gate E9. It was on the left side, just before the Delta Sky Club. I wish I could tell you the name of the place and exactly what they had, but besides the usual fare I noticed EC12 and MM46.

Louisville airport has the Woodford Reserve lounge with, you guessed it, Woodford Reserve!

Apologies if my previous quote was unclear but I was referring to duty free and not an airport bar.

And, as of August of this year, the Salt Lake City airport will have a bar and restaurant dedicated to Utah's first licensed distillery since 1870.

That's great Mat! I may have to see if I can pass through SLC just to visit it.

SKU, if you're anywhere near the SLC airport you best be on your way to visit us for real.

BTW, am coming out at the end of this month to SoCal for a series of trade tastings for our distributor. 4/23 in San Diego, 4/24 in LA & 4/26 in Santa Barbara. Any chance you'll be attending one of these?

Duty free has mostly basics, Jd, Beam, sometimes WT and MM. Also lots of scotch, some which is special duty free only bottlings. Most every other category is basics!

Hong Kong had Blanton's gold and silver last I was there. I don't recall anything else beyond the usual Makers, Jack, etc. Little use since no liquid was allowed to be brought on the plane as a carry-on.

One of the girls from work travels home to Hong Kong every 6 months or so. She's been nice enough to pick me up a couple of Silver bottles on the way into the country, then she puts them in her suitcase for the trip back to Australia.

US duty free rarely has anything you couldn't buy in shops -- occasionally you'll find JD Silver Select and even more rarely WT8. There was a hideous sherry-finished WT in O'Hare a few years back.

Overseas is better: Europe had the Jim Beam 6 Grain up to last summer, and Asia usually has the JDSS and WT8 everywhere; WT12 on occasion. Narita in Japan usually has IW Harper in a crystal decanter (I forget the age statement.) I've never seen Blanton's in DFS on my travels but now I'll keep my eyes open.
