Who amongst us knows the pleasures of a fine cigar? Have you been to heaven and back with your favorite pour and fine stogie? Be it cuban or dominican and everything in between, a good cigar reminds us that we are alive, and that life's pleasures are our's for the taking. Sound off with your favorite herf! :bandit:

Jeff, I know and love good cigars, but I had to swear off of them about 4-5 years ago.

Hmmm, good question. Its hard to remember, now. I seem to have pretty effectively blocked it all out. About all I can remember, now, is that I didn't like Punch.

Right now, I feel pretty silly. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've got some of Julian's cigar's on the way that you wrote about a while ago. I'm not a cigar smoker (my last was during last years festival and it was one of those fancy Makers Mark ones in the glass tube) but I'm sure it'll be a nice smoke. I plan on trying it with Julian's Rye at his suggestion.

I really love to smoke cigars. Padrón's have always been such a good cigar for the price I usually go with them.

I love to drink bourbon.

I can't do both at the same time. You have heard of the "only smoke when I drink" types... That is the only time I am sure not to smoke a heavy cigar. My stomach can't handle it.

Ugh.

Hey Jeff,
It's been awhile since, I posted. I have been dealing with an injury to my back. My doctor told me no drinking with the pain medication, so I haven't taken a sip in a while. But I am back! Jeff, I am right now finding, that a light but intense rye goes really well with a cigar. I've been indulging in the Van Winkle 13yr Rye with my cigars. The smokes of choice are cubans and fuller dominicans like AVO Domaine and Signature. Among the cubans the Ramon Allones Specially Selected is good right now. It's a good compromise in flavor between the Partagas Serie D No.4 and Bolivar Royal Corona. The PSD4 are being rolled very loosely right now. It's a bad buy. But lovers of Punch Rare Corojo, should give Bolivar and Monte Cristo a try. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

Hey everyone! This is one of my first posts here, I just posted a "Howdy Everybody" welcoming post in the Off-Topic room.

I've been smoking cigars for a bunch of years now and enjoy them immensely! Regularly I smoke Fuentes and Padrons, with more and more Habanos entering the picture. My favorite "everyday" smokes include the Padron 5000 Maduro and the Fuente 858 SG. On the weekends I step it up a notch with the OpusX, Anejos, Padron 1964s + 1926s, Hemingways, and the Habanos! I have just gotten into pipes, so I don't really have any favorites on those yet!

As far as bourbon, I am a "newbie" so I don't know a whole lot about whats good and what isn't. Maker's Mark and Knob Creek will be my frist adventures! (c:

I have really enjoyed the Fuente Fuente Opus xXx. Other favorites include the Ashton VSG and Cohiba XV (Extra Viejo).

I am also a big fan of Padron, Perdomo, Onyx Reserve, Leon Jimenes,
La Aroma de Cuba, and La Gloria Cubana. I won't turn down a Bolivar, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann, CAO, Partagas or Macanudo either.

Gosh! There are so many good cigars out there these days... Punch,
Don Diego, Montecristo, El Rey del Mundo, Don Tomas, Torano, Dunhill,

A Hoyo DC with Weller Centennial(explosion of different flavors)
A Cohiba Esplendido and WTKS (first class conglomeration of tastes)
An RyJ Cazadores and Wathens (pepper and velvet)
An RASCC with Rare Breed(rich, agressive, immediate)
A Partagas Salamone with a long draft of ORVW 15 (oh man!)
A Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro &(sorry!)Highland Park 25 yo
A RyJ Churchill & Buffalo Trace (mellow, like two streams meeting)
A Monte #2 & Weller 12yo (oh my God!)
A Cohiba VI & EC 12yo (about half way into the VI before it kicks with the EC, but then look out!)
A H.Upmann Mag 46 and anything made in Tennessee(strong & tannic!)
A Por Larranaga Lonsdale & Blanton's SE (royalty)
On and on and on, the point being(in my opinion) a great cigar and a whisky are an astoundingly flavorful combination. Even for people that don't normally smoke but enjoy whisky, there are many cigars that truely enhance the flavor experience. It's worth a try, at least once. But do it slowly!

My humidor is filled with mostly La Perla Habanas in both Natural and Maduro, La Gloria Cubanas Serie R, and H Upmann Hamiltons, all of which I purchased over the web at deep discounts in a going out of business sale. When I want a treat with a good bourbon though, I opt for an Opus X (when I can find one), a Diamond Crown, or a Cohiba XV.

I am a pipe smoker. There are more good blends of pipe tobacco than can be named here. I am relatively new to bourbon, and still have a lot of exploring to do as to what mates perfectly with what. So far the blend I am smoking right now (Black Dog, by Cornell & Diehl) goes great with every bourbon I've tried.

Tobacco and whiskey seem made for each other.

I am a pipe smoker also and I do enjoy my bourbon in the evening. I recently obtained a tobacco sampler from Three Ten Pipe Shop in Murfreesboro, TN and their 'Baker Steet' tobacco blend goes quite well with my JTS Brown w/water. Welcome Mike!

I have enjoyed many cigars with Buffalo Trace. I think their style of bourbon lends itself to cigar pairings. If you can, try matching a Macanudo gold label with a generous pour of Stagg or Eagle Rare 17yo http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/yum.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

New to the board here. I lean towards the Nicaraguan cigars, and I'm a Maduro fan. A CAO Maduro is my favorite with a Cuban Crafter Cabinet Selection a close runnerup. For a powerhouse combination, try a Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte and some Knob Creek. Guraanteed to knock your socks off. Just don't try it on an empty stomach.

I too enjoy a good cigar now and then. So far my favorite combinations have been Hampton Bay Macanudo w/ EWSB '95 and a Fuente Hemmingway w/ RR101.

I picked up some short Davidoff perfectos in DC and am chomping at the bit to try one, possibly with either the BMH 11 yr or the Van Winkle Lot B that I also picked up down there.

For the money, I'm finding it hard to beat the Occidental Reserve Maduros. $4 a stick up here, and they smoke like a $9 stick. I also have an AVO limited edition (not sure what they're called - yearly AVO release with no band) that I've been told is superb, and I cannot wait to try that either.

MurphyDawg

after lots of experimentation over that last year and half I have found many wonderful combinations, but the three most sublime may just be these:

a Partgas Series D #4 & (the alas soon to be discontinued http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) Russells Reserve.

a Hoyo Epicure #2 (my favorite Stogie) and Weller 19 year

and a simple sweet non pretentious combo of a Sancho Panza Double Maduro and Ancient Ancient Age Ten Year Mmmmmm. . .

I smoke cigars much more often than I drink Bourbon. But when I do, Knob Creek and an El Rico Habano, or a La Gloria Cubano. Fuente Sungrown Double Chateau works well with MM. But then I haven't found an unpleasant pairing yet.

If this works, here a pic of some smokes. I've scaled back a bit since I took this. Now they're all in the humi so I could get the coolers out of the house.

Hi - I'm new here but I do love a good cigar and a glass of bourbon!

I find Havanas go best with bourbon because they're fuller bodied and don't get overshadowed by the alcohol.

Romeo y Julietas, Partagas or H. Upmann would be my choices to go with a glass of Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, or Rockhill Farms!

I also like a nice Scotch with a cigar, but this isn't straightscotch.com!

Slightly OT, I'm in Canada and find it interesting how many of you smoke Havanas! Must be hard to get them down there!

I guess I am the exception, my palate just does not care for alcohol with cigars. Dark-roast coffee with a cigar is more to my taste. Favorite cigar, when I decide to splurge a bit, is a Partagas Spanish Rosado. Otherwise, everyday smokes are something from the JR Ultimate line, Montecristo, or Don Diego.

At most I most 2 per day in the summer. Usually, I smoke about 3-5 per week and those are fairly small sticks...petit coronas, coronas, or robustos. The petit corona for the three brands I listed all run about $2.50 to $3.00 a piece via JR Cigars.

I enjoy 2-3 good cigars a week. Favorites: Bolivar Petit Corrona, Ramon Allones Special Selected, Gurka Anceint Warrior, CAO Brazillia GO, and La Gloria Cubana Seire R #5. Although I'm new to bourbon, so far I like Knob Creek, Bookers, and WT 101. As far as smoking good cigars with good bourbon? I think done together they can be counter productive. It seems to me that nuances of both can be overpowered. I've found that a cup of good fresh ground coffee enhances the taste of a cigar, but bourban is best enjoyed by itself.

I like a good cigar, and I love bourbon. I found that I can't have them together, though, for my stomach heartily objects. Forced to choose between the two, I found myself always just going for the bourbon. It's a lot more convenient, and, well, I just love bourbon.

That said, I thought that a good spicy maduro cigar went really nicely with WTRR, or Bulleit. OGD 114 was another good cigar bourbon (it's good for everything, imo).

A milder cigar is nice with a wheater- kind of like dessert for the smoker / drinker. These were nice for summer evenings in NC (I miss southern summer evenings a lot right now), sitting out on the patio/deck, chatting away with good company.

Great. Now I'm getting homesick.

I dont think the search for finding the right combinations can be overstated. The wrong combinations have come of awful to me, but when done correctly, a good bourbon stogie pairing verges on the sublime! I agree the 114 makes a fabulous go to stogie bourbon as well, I have enjoyed it on many an occasion with the likes of PSD 4's or a La Flor Dominicana double ligero. Do you have any suggestions to pair with a wheater, as I have found most of what I own to overpower them to an extent?

I love a good cigar, but I haven't had many of them over the past few years. My absolute favorite when I can get them is a Cuban Montecristo #2, the torpedo. I really love them. Primarily now for my smoking purposes I'll just have a Dunhill Cigarette. The tobacco is a high grade and closer to cigar quality.

I was talking with one of the Torano reps several years back in a buddy of mines Cigar shop...he said to watch out over the next couple years..that they had been aging some special tobacco and working on some different blends...WOW!...most know now that they had several cigars (Exodus, reserva, 1916 cameroon etc.) that hit the market that had ratings from 90-93! Some cigar companies NEVER achieve ratings like that. Anyway, I like them paired with many different pours..especially ones in the 90-94 proof range. I go for a mild to medium cigar like Macanudo, Arturo Fuente 8-9-8, Romeo y Julieta maduro; but I find that my favorite changes every few months. It seems my palate needs a little variety, and the same thing happens with coffee and whiskey. Right now I'm smoking a lot of H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon 7 x 47. A whiskey is nice. Like my Dad told his doctor, "I like a cigar with my whiskey, and you wouldn't want me to give up my whiskey would you?"

Stogie fan here, just checking in. Got lots of favorites, but if I had to live with a few select boxes I would grab:

Padron 5000 Maduro
Tatuaje Miami
Rocky Patel The Edge Maduro
Carlos Toraño Exodus '50 Years'

I love a rich, complex and earthy smoke. One with some body and bite too. A big fan of maduro wrappers, but also have a spot for a good corojo and a criollo if I can find one. Going to pick up a nice cigar for this weekend to celebrate classes ending for the summer; its been so cold here I haven't been able to enjoy a cigar in far too long.

Torano Exodus gold label. Usually the Robusto or Toro, but enjoy the Torpedo. Great value, fantastic smoke. Very consistent too; I don't think I've ever had a plugged or bad one.

I usually have a beer or some kind of other nonalcoholic drink with a cigar. Getting more into a rum, whiskey, etc. to pair with. No favorite yet...

I also enjoy all kinds of cigars...but I find Cuban's to be overrated. For the price, you can find way better cigars than smoking something we're not allowed to have, haha. But hey, smoke what ya like.

I've posted in this forum for a few months now, but I don't believe I've checked in. Cigars have been a hobby of mine for over 10 years now, and I love pairing them with bourbon. I typically smoke Cuban cigars, but I mix in a non-Cuban here and there. I used to enjoy doing cigar reviews for the Cigar Inspector blog, but then I had a daughter and my time for reviewing went out the window... Maybe I'll get back into it one day. Here is a link to some of my old reviews if anyone is curious

Hi everyone! I am new to the forum but not new to cigars or whisk(e)y. I live in Germany so I am around mostly cuban cigars and scotch. I like cubans, but I would take a Nicaraguan cigar over a cuban 9 times out of 10 any day. I enjoy cigars from Don Pepin, Pete Johnson, and Charlie Toraño to name few. Fortunately, over last couple years the selection of American whiskey has increased considerably.

I'm a passionate cigar smoker. I smoke at least 2 a day and more on the weekend. I look forward to talking whiskey and cigars with you guys.

Wow! Look at all the cigar smokers! Enjoyed them for years. Nicaraguan puro's would be my favourites, as I prefer
full body/full flavour.

Been smoking for about 5 years... I built a nice collection. Wen't a little to deep, then I discovered the Dark side due to forums. After that I sold off almost all my sticks to make dark side purchases the only ones i kept are some opus, anejo, Padron Anny, and Liga Privadas... I would say these days I'm only 10%NC... Sitting on 500+ sticks at the moment...

I would say right now my favorite is the 2004 CoLa

Checking in!

But hey, smoke what ya like.I hate to break it to you, But CC are actually cheaper that Nc... Just gotta know the right legit sources.. Way to many fakes out there, I only trust a handful of vendors.

Checking in - just noticed this part of the forum. 90% of my whiskey drinking is done while smoking a cigar.

I think I have a tobacco problem. I bet I have about 8lbs of pipe tobacco cellaring and God know how many cigars. I would say cigar and pipes is one of my favorite hobbies.
