View Full Version : Michigan - Pig and whiskey festival in Ferndale
Howdy All:
I hope you are doing great.
Looks like Ferndale is doing a Pig and Whiskey fest in July- http://metrotimes.com/pigandwhiskey
Does anyone know anything about this or went last year?
My son's grad party is on that Saturday but I might try to go on Sunday.
Best regards, Tony

BBQ and whiskey? Talk about hitting my sweet spot! I'm interested in going but Ferndale is two hours away. I will have to see if I can sweet talk my wife into going so she can drive me home.
I also would like to hear from someone that would have attended last year.
I saw some flyers for this recently. I did not go last year, but I'd like to go this year. Sounds like a blast!

Thanks for the tip. I lived two blocks form there 42+ years ago. I'll have to check it out.
Music too. Is there anything missing?

So, at an event like this - can only whiskies from the official MI list be sold? I believe that would eliminate Whistle Pig.

Heading over this evening! I'll be the tall good-looking one.

But of course!
Also the one with B-B-Q sauce on your shirt and whiskey on your breath?

Of course! Don't I always? :D I'll be wearing my Kentucky Moon Corn Whiskey vintage T-shirt.
So how was it? I ended up with family from out of town so stayed home and grilled steaks. Bet it was a great time.

It was really fun. Good music (I liked it anyway), lots of great BBQ, good beer (all Michigan micro-brews), and the whiskey tent was great. They had a pretty good selection of bourbon, Scotch (blends and singles), Irish and Canadian. They even had Platte Valley corn whiskey and rye! You could even take your cup of whiskey with you and walk around the festival! What a concept!
It was pretty affordable too. All the food was cash purchase, but you had to buy tickets for the beer and whiskey. This wasn't a big issue, though, since there was a variety of whiskeys available at anywhere from 2-5 tickets. Tix were 10 for $20. Platte Valley Corn Whiskey was 2, Eagle Rare SB 2, EC 12, 2 tickets. The most expensive I saw was Blanton's and a couple single malts for 5. The Sugar House cocktail bar in Corktown in Detroit had a table at the whiskey tent too. They were serving bourbon & branch (with Four Roses) for 3 tickets.
Anyway, I'll definately go back next year.

Thanks for the write up, certainly sounds like a good time and I will make an effort to go next year.

I checked it out Sunday afternoon. A great report by Josh says it all. I'll add the BBQ was excellent.

Good one to keep in mind. It's about a 4 hour drive for me, but hey, BBQ & Bourbon when I get there.
