On paper, I like everything about this new Prairie Reserve from High West: the clear labeling, the specific information on the sources, and the way they put it together. Hope to have it in the hamper this weekend to confirm what I'm sure is a fine bourbon.

By the way, I didn't mean to state "my" in capital letters in the title thread, but I can't find a way to edit it even though it's my title. Maybe a kindly mod would help out..

Gary, I think this is a very good bourbon. The Four Roses product is the more prominent of the two in the blend, at least for my taste. I have seen others call it too young-tasting, but 6 year old bourbon rarely comes across as "too young" to me. The rye flavors are the star of the show here, with a little sweetness behind them.

I agree with you regarding the information that High West provides on what's in each of the bottles they sell. I'm glad to see they're doing the same with their own distillates, providing information regarding mashbill and distillation proof.

I heard from a trusted source that a subsuquent batch (don't know the number) is minus the LDI and all 4R. You may want to check the batch number for a #1 if you want the LDI.

I wonder if Mat can confirm this? If the blend changed, I'll pick up another bottle soon rather than waiting for my Batch #1 to be empty, supporting a local business is a great way for me to justify buying more bourbon! (But seriously, I'd just like to try it if it's changed, since I dug the first one.)

Great tip Thad, thanks, I'll check the batch number, but maybe as Jim just requested Matt will give further information. It was really the blending of the two bourbons mentioned on the website that interests me, though.

P.S. Thanks to the mods for fixing the title, you guys are the best.
