Okay, what did everyone receive?

I got a JPS18 batch 13. I am a bit of a numbers nerd, at a business with employees present and past numbering well over 100, I am employee #13, so the batch number was cool.

Perhaps if she drank the half of it, as mine does, she would be open to buying more. Sometimes I feel like the kid who bought his mom a football for Christmas. Then discovered that she loved it and kept for herself. Merry Christmas anyway.

Willett 21 year old single barrel (barrel 3708 at 102 proof) from my parents. I don't know that it's at barrel strength at that low of proof, but it appears not to have been filtered in any way (there's some small barrel char pieces on the bottom at the bottle).

That is a great gift. My brother has The Green Egg and my My father has a Primo (Similar, just different shape). They are wonderful and will encourage the drinking of bourbon for sure. They make the best smoked/bbq meats. They are also awesome for pizza and bread.

Got a Baker's miniature from my wife. 31st straight year she's dropped a whiskey mini in my stocking.

Also, received a bottle of the Woodford Four Wood, which I am finding to be a very nice pour. It seems with each passing year, the cantaloupe rind taste of the Woodford pot still is reduced in the Master's Collection bottlings. Reduced, or covered up. Not sure which. I don't mind it, but I think it's reduction makes this whiskey more approachable to those who dislike it.

Related gifts were the Cecil Bourbon book, and a sampler box of the Blanton's Cigars. One more Christmas event to go to this weekend at my brothers. Hopefully, some goodies from them, as well!

I had heard a story on the radio, that some grocery stores were increasing their effort to sell liquor. I was shopping for Christmas, and noticed my usual grocery store started carrying; Four Roses single barrel, Knob single barrel, Bulleit Rye, and some others (well cheaper than anywhere in town). I didn't think anyone was going to give me bourbon for a present, so I had to be proactive

Got a bottle of James E. Pepper 15 year bourbon. Pretty excited as I'd never seen it before. My guess is it is probably juice from LDI, but being a newb I'm excited whenever my palate gets exposure to anything more aged than a standard bottle of BT.

Wild Turkey 101 (old label) anyone else notice a difference between the new/old label? I find the old label to have less burn, more of a warming feeling, with more caramel/vanilla then the new label. It might be mental but I feel there is just something about it, Id buy the old label over the new anyday.

I was also told that I would be recieving my real bourbon gift at tonights UFC fight at the brothers house..... We will see.

I tended bar in the Chicago area from 1978 to 1981 and a shot of Malort was de rigeur for anybody's first legal night of drinking (19 then). Also had two 70 plus year old guys, still working as tool and die makers, who regularly drank 2 shots a night with shorty Old Styles, after they got off their 2 PM to 10 PM shift...so we went through about 2 bottles a week.

I agree. I suspect that some of the 6-8 year old juice went into WT81 and WT101 is now all 4-6 year bourbon. Tastes young-ish and hot. Only looking to purchase old labels, the newest "dusty".

Sticking to the thread, I got "nuthin" this Xmas.

Yeah the new WT101 sucks. I thought maybe I was wrong, but tried again. It's awful. If there is 6 years in there then it is less than 25%. Used to be my go to bourbon. No more.

Hmmm... You could keep it around for parties where you can set out a bottom-shelfer to keep the expensive whiskies safe. You could re-gift it to a grad student hard up for whiskey money. If it still has an original price tag with a store name, the selling store might take back the "mistake" and credit you towards a much nicer bottle. :D

Late arrivals here, too. A Blanton's, a Rock Hill Farms, and a Belle Meade Bourbon from my big brother. One and two need not a word of comment, as they are two of the finest whiskies on the planet, other than my Christmas gift to him was even cooler!!! :D But I'll tell ya, the Belle Meade is a nice bourbon, itself. A lot more guts to it than I expected. Interestingly enough, I've always given a good WTF? when folks have described the LDI ryes as having a dill thing going on. Never got that. But, a subtle dill note hit me on this Belle Meade bourbon. Crazy, but it's there! It's not off-putting, but it is strange...I dig on house styles. Maybe, this is one for LDI? Just, dont' overdo it boys...

Plus, got the coolest silver stag deerhead bottle cork topper. It now sits handsomely atop a 2004 George T. Stagg...Dang looks good!!!
