I was dusty hunting a few weeks ago when I came across a bottle of Lot No. 40 sitting right next to a Weller Centennial Louisville. Given the recent hype of the new release, I recognized the name and picked up the bottle. I've done a bit of searching for more info, but other than discovering that this is not from the new release, I have come up with nothing. Can anybody give me some more info on this bottle? Is it a dud or am I in for a treat?

I don't know that much about this but it was part of the "Canadian Whiskey Guild" trio maybe 6 years ago. There was Lot 40, Gooderham & Worts, and Pikes Creek. The Lot 40 was praised as the best of the 3. I have an unopened bottle that I will probably never get around to if someone else wants it. Just let me know.

Did you leave the Centennial behind?

It's very good if you like the Canadian style of Rye. I do and will buy more in the future, but if you haven't tried the type be aware they are not as robust as the American style.

I think we can safely rule out that its a 2012 release. For some reason, I'm under the impression that the 2011 release and the '90s release shared the same packaging/labels.

Here's a link to more info on the 2011 version:

Hell no! :D That was the prize...the Lot 40 was a curiosity.

Given that this shared a shelf with a bunch of 1990s bottles, I'm fairly confident that this is also from the 90's, but I have no clue what that means for the contents. Better? Worse? Same? Who cares?

Don't you worry, it will get opened. Just trying to figure out if I need to drop the coin on a current bottle too.
