Hi,

If this has been talked about please guide me there and delete this thread; I couldn't find in my searches.

Being completely new to OGD, I'm wondering what is the difference with this silver label OGD114. From memories, I have passed by this. I'm wondering should I try to remember where to go back and buy them.

What's this?

The gold is pre-beam make (if I'm not mistaken.) Go get it!

The silver is probably gold that has faded. In any case, I always buy these when I find them. Magnificent ND juice.

This is an older label and if the price is good go get it.

I believe the first picture is of a bottle from National Distillers. ND was the company that made OGD before Beam bought the brand. The second picture is the modern version made by Beam. I would say to buy one and taste it, then decide.

Oh my. Ok, it's been a while and I remember they were pretty cheap. Not sure which store I saw as I had visited so many but I think I may be able to narrow it down. Worse case I have to do my whole circuit again.

Since I really like the newer ones, this is a definitely get then.

Thanks all!
Hugh

Does anybody remember this as an export label?

Still is in Japan.

That's what I thought.

Ok, another odd thing I just saw a bottle (modern) in a nice box. Is it wrong that I add it to my bunker only because it was in a nice box. Succumbing to the marketing ploy but fortunately, I'm making a habit to pick one up if I see some to bunker.

I like the sometimes-boxed brands like this and WTRB. The packaging makes for a nice looking gift.

Of course not Hugh, a nice box is an excellent reason to buy some Old Grand Dad, I buy all mine boxed.

Thanks both! This was the only boxed set I have seen and at this Bevmo, they only got two they said. I guess with 6 bunkered, I'll pick up boxed set from now on as I see them.

It does look really nice.

Sipping on some as I type this. It's is surprisingly easy to drink.

Cheers

Still is in Japan.

They switched to the same black label we have in the US a couple years back (in Japan that is).

The silver would be faded gold. We did a vertical of OGD 114 and that bottle in the picture looks like an older one with the ribbon There was also a newer ND versione we had that did not have the ribbon as I recall. Both were ND but the newer seemed to have been more aged. The older bottle with what appeared to be younger whiskey was better. But both were fine bourbon. I would definitely recommend to pick them up if you still have the opportunity.

It's a definite must pick-up just because it's a cool score. And, it is a good bourbon. But FWIW, I enjoy the Beam version of this whiskey better.

BTW, I would recommend buying (and drinking) the Beam version first. You'll need its cork, because most likely the ND cork will disintergrate when you go to take it out, and the Beam fits perfectly as a replacement.

Joe is correct, the cork may not be reliable, I'd grab an empty bottle for a back up decanter just in case.

I would not hesitate to buy something that looks like a different version of something I know I like (so long as the price is reasonable), but then again I am a sucker. Hope you manage to locate the store--one of these days I would sure like to get a chance to try the ND juice. As to the boxed bottles, it seems everywhere I buy the 114 half of the bottles on the shelf are in boxes and the other half are naked. I wondered if the retailers were just throwing some away as they are pretty flimsy and may have easily been damaged in transit.

That bottle is some of the finest whiskey you will ever drink, I picked up 3 half pints at 4 bucks each not too long ago in a store. Bottled in 77 I think. Rich, butterscotch with a lot of rye notes, you would almost think it is rye whiskey.

Sadly went to my usual seven spots and can't find it. Either someone bought it or I went to a new spot that I forgot, most likely. So it's probably still out there.

The ND OGD is fantastic (I prefer it to Beam's version). I have one unopened bottle left and very much look forward to opening it.

Ok, I'll try harder to remember where I saw them. Then when I visit the wine country, I'll be bringing you a gift and we can enjoy it together.

Man, you're going to make me search the whole bay this weekend trying to find this. 86 proof ND OGD is all over the place, but I've never so much as seen a dusty 114.
