View Full Version : bourbon and food
Hey, you all!!! It's me again!!!Don't worry about what food goes with bourbon-just sit back and nibble on whatever is available as it all goes with bourbon!!! The only thing to remember is if you drink bourbon, you have to nibble on something!!!
Cheers,
Marvin
At night while I am watching tv and having a few drinks my favorite 'snack' food is UTZ sourdough special pretzels, the unsalted ones. I know pretzels are a beer thing but I still like em' nonetheless especially these exact brand of unsalted ones. Most unsalted suck, but these sourdough ones from UTZ are the best.
Nancy reminds me...you should have chocolate cheese from the Wisconsin Cheese Man with your Bourbon, Marvin!

Bob,

Absolutely! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif Nancy is a wise woman! That really was good stuff (and addresses that blood sugar thing too... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif).

Chocolate covered cherries, vanilla ice cream a la Evan Williams '94, Marvin!

That sounds great.
So let's have some at the next gazebo nite along with the serious tablewater crackers for tasting.
How does the aforementioned ham, baked beans and bananas Foster sound? (I don't know anything about the latter).
Wonder if General Nelson has a kitchen. Maybe his wife does.

Wow, am I glad to see the references to chocolate! I'm sitting here chewing a Tootsie Roll with Old Fitz BIB, and I figured I was pregnant or something (well, maybe not really -- I haven't had that much bourbon!).

Probably my favorite thing with bourbon is south Alabama pecan brittle. Since I'm (supposed to be) on the Atkin's Diet, its a treat I can rarely indulge in.

I meant to say on the last post. count ME in.
Amelia,

...count ME in.
Me Too!
I've talked to Bobbie Brown (she owns the Nelson) about cost, etc. for that little breakfast room of their's, right beside the gazebo.
I say we work on this for next year...
Bj
Did she say what the cost would be?
Tim,
If you come to bourbon fest next year,
bring some of that south Alabama peanut brittle!

Amelia,
Did she say what the cost would be?
Well, kinda yes and no... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/skep.gif
I called her because of a post (somewhere... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)) by BP saying the cost was going to be way-crazy-expensive. I've known Bobbie Brown for some time, and I wanted to make sure she knew who we were... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif
What she told me was the cost would depend on how we wanted to do it. She originally thought we wanted it catered. When I explained that we could most likely handle the food ourselves, it all changed.
Ultimately, the only thing that is written in stone, is the fact that she won't open her building unless there will be a staff person there at all times. So, the way I'm understanding, we need to cover an hourly staff person for the length of time the building is open, and most likely cleaning costs.
We can do this... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif,
Bj
Brenda,
I think that would be great. I'm still wondering if the building has a kitchen that we could use. I bet with all of our talents, we could collectively whip up some "kicked up" food, to go with all of our "kicked up" bourbons. That would certainly add to our Gazebo Fun.

I think they have kitchen but, anyone that wants to whip up something special that requires any serious cook time can use my kitchen, I'm within walking distance of the gazebo.

See the Toasted Pecan Brittle on this page: Priester's Pecans (http://www.priester.com/Shopping/Products.asp?cat=39&n=0)
Tim
Maybe we should just stick to the cook out that we planned..I know that Ed and Patty said I could depend on them for sure.

We're definitely in. I'll start looking for sales on "stuff" now and stockpiling.
The Patty and I love to entertain.

Amelia,
You can count on me too.
If ya'll want to have a cookout at your house, let me know how I can help.
If we would want to keep it close to the gazebo, I'll open my kitchen and we can carry food over.
If we want to use the Nelson's breakfast facility, I'll be happy to call Bobbie B. for an exact price.
This is gonna be great.
Bj
We will have it at the GAZEBO like we planned this past Sept. It will be lots of fun, that way every one will be right there at the motel too. You can ask Bobbie that runs the General Nelson but I bet it will cost a fortune.
What a selection, Tim!

Thanks for the tip on the peanut brittle
and for the site. I can take care of some
Christmas shopping here too.

You are welcome. Yes, it is a great source for gifts.
Tim
One of my new favorite foods to munch on with bourbon are dry-roasted and salted almonds. Something about the salty, oily and nutty flavaor of the almonds complements every bourbon I have paired with them so far.
