View Full Version : Stagg has arrived!
I am so stoked! This evening, on my way to class, I stopped by my fav Liquor Barn to search for a specific bourbon for a friend and what was there to greet me? George T Stagg! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The shipment had just arrived earlier that day. I snatched up a bottle (38.99) and counted 7 more on the shelf (Much as I wanted to, I just couldnt purchase anymore). After reading your comments on this bourbon for the last several months, I'm so excited to finally be able to sample this bourbon. Whoo hoo!
For those of you who wish to know (and my apoligies to those who already do) the alc.by vol is 71.35% and the proof is a whopping 142.7. There's nothing on the bottle (that i see anyway) to distingiush year of bottling. Either the shelf label or the clerk informed me that this was aged 15 yrs? I dont see anything on the bottle confirming that either.
I'm almost finished with my first glass, and I have to say this is a potent bourbon. The heat is considerable, but the flavor is intense. I've never been really good at describing bourbon flavors, but the nose has definite caramel and fruit tones. The heat precludes me from leaving it on my tongue very long. As the clerk recommended, I'm using small "respectful" sips.
Congra's to you , !!!
I hope that the rest of us can share in your good forture ...

Yep, got a couple bottles today from the Liquor Barn on Richmond road. Can't wait to try some tonight. The darkest looking bourbon I have ever seen http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Which Liquor Barn? I dispatched my pick-up service (uh, my sister who works in L'ville) to the Hurstbourne Lane store.

Chuck,
You're on the right track. The Hustbourne location is where I bought mine and, as of last night, there were plenty left.

Made a lunch break pilgramage to Thoroughbred Shop in Lexington and found 6 cases in stock @37.99/bottle. This is some dark bourbon. I have a cold and haven't been able to taste anything for three days. Tasting to follow recovery. Who's gonna do the first Head-to-Head?

CONGRATS! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif Great news for those of us in MA! I'm going to check out my one possibility tomorrow, right after work. Here's hoping, and let us know what you think about the taste http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/drink.gif of this "rare as hen's teeth" whiskey! Really amazing score, considering the long odds you faced!

Have you opened your bottle of the 02 Stagg Bill? I am curious to hear your thoughts as well on the new compared to the old after sampling them both.
Well I have admit I did start early on this,,, I got a bottle shop here that the owner is H*ll bent to build , stock and maintain the best supply of drink for his customers ....be it Bourbon , or other ? pours (like there is anything else). He worked since last year when he try'd to get a bottle and was told no way on the earth was he getting or could get any .... this year he did alright ,,,
Hopefully tommorrow I will put Phase 2 into effect and find / get more ..if things work out ...
