I bought a bottle of Old Grand Dad at an antique store a few years back. I'm interested in finding out its value and possibly selling it. Can you help me? It is a pint, from 1932, during the Prohibition. It even says "For medicinal purposes only." It has an unbroken tax seal, but since its closed with a cork, there has been some evaporation. I would appreciate any help you can give or anyone you can refer me to for help. Thank you,Larry Monks

There does not appear to be any significant resale market for American whiskies, no matter how rare they may be. Your bottle is not particularly rare. Look at some of the other dialogues on this board where people have asked virtually the same question and you will learn just about everything the people here can tell you.

There really doesn't seem to be any recognized authority for collectible bourbon or paraphrenalia, such as there are for paintings, figurines, coins, stamps, Avon bottles, Beanie Babies, etc. I've found the best way to get an idea of the value of collectibles such as whiskey bottles is to watch how they do on eBay http://www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com) .

You'll need to register with them to access the auction pages, but it costs nothing and you don't have to bid on anything (I say this with a grin, as I've been hooked several times - and was pleased each one of them). By watching the closing bids, you can see, over a period of time, what real people are really willing to pay for these items. That's a better indicator than a guess from even the most educated hobbiests (or merchants, unless they're offering to buy).
