I am hoping someone on this website can help me. I am trying to trace the type of bourbon that may be
in a gift bottle given to me by my uncle several years
ago. The bottle says is that it was made in the
Frankfort Distilling Company, Louisville, KY and it is
10 years old. The bottom of the ceramic bottle says
that it was bottled in 1971. All it says on the
bottom is "Rare Antique Sportsmans Series Golfer
1971". The bottle, is in the shape of a male golfer
hittng a ballaround a tree.
On the front, it says "RARE ANTIQUE
10 YEAR OLD BOURBON KENTUCKY STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY
86 PROOF 10 YEARS OLD 4/5 QUART BOTTLED BY FRANKFORT
DISTILLING CO., LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY" The seal (US
Internal Revenue tax paid distlled spirits) that
covers the cap has never been broken.

He gave it to me as a gift and he has had it for at
least 20-30 years according to him. I am trying to
ascertain its collector's value if any.

I would appreciate any information that may help me.
If there is some collector value to it, I intend to
give it back to him.

If you can't help me, perhaps you can direct me to
someone else.

I can send a photo (pic.file) if it helps.

Thanks,

Jeff G.

What was "The Frankfort Distilling Company" went 2 ways. The name and the brands eventually ended up at Seagrams, The Plant eventually went to National Distillers, that was bought in 1986 by Jim Beam. Heartland of Kentucky Decanters (http://www.ka.net/heartlandky/Web%20Pages/bottleinformation.htm) may be of some help to establish a value.
Generally the decanter folks deal in empty bottles and place no value on it being sealed and full of original product. You occasionally hear of a decanter being worth Hundreds and Thousands of dollars. I am surprized when I go to the Decanter Store just how much you can get for 30 bucks.
Hope this helps, and welcome to this board.

Yeah, generally these decanters are worth simply what someone is willing to pay for them and in most cases it's not much... Though there are rare exceptions. eBay is one's best bet to see what they may be able to fetch; Just be sure to keep a reserve set on the item for an amount you are willing to part with it for, in case it does get alot of bids. Good luck with whatever you choose to do with it.

If this is a match, you might want to follow this auction:
