Looking for what I guess would best described as a "home made still" to be used as more of a decorative piece than functional still. Any thoughts as to where I might find such an item within this forum.

Stills are available through survivalist resources. I have also seen them online, from places like Australia and New Zealand where they are legal. Also, a still for distilling water will distill alcohol just as readily. None of these are particular attractive, however, like the lovely teardrop shaped stills they have at the Oscar Getz Museum. Maybe Vendome, in Louisville, which makes stills for the commercial distilleries, can make something for you.

Elmer Lee once told me a story about a "government man" who was retiring after many years at the distillery in Frankfort now known as Buffalo Trace. The distillery has quite extensive maintenance shops and at that time one of the workers was very handy with copper so he fabricated a beautiful, miniature pot still for the man as a retirement present. Instead of appreciating it he got angry because the still was functional and, therefore, illegal.
