Randy Blank (doubleblank with wife Val) first graced us with his generosity and fine eponymous VW Lot B bottling, then treated himself at Saturday's charity auction with a certainly rare -- and perhaps one-of-a-kind remainder -- 17yo Van Winkle Family Reserve bourbon, originally exported to Japan:

Lucky guy, that's quite a find.. and it prompts a question: Are there any current export-only bottlings that I might find in Japan? There seem to be several Japan-only bottlings around, like the Black Makers Mark....

I'm actually hopping on a plane to Tokyo tomorrow. I've drank my share of Bourbon there, though I've never gone shopping for it before. Any suggestions?

It was pretty exciting to see Randy win the bid on that item.In all $10155.00 was raised for the Getz. Beside sponsoring the auction, Julian VanWinkle made a substantial donation of signed bottles of impossible or very near so, to get Bourbons.A bottle of the newly released Old Pogue, paired with a copy of Sam Cecils book went for $125.00.

At the end 3 very special items were offered,

Special Old Reserve, in memory of JoAnn Beam,

Very Extra Old Fitzgerald,Distilled in 1958, bottled in 1968.Mint condition, in memory of Joe Conguisti.
Both Donated by Laurie Conguisti.

A Private VanWinkle Bottling for Delilah's , A bar in Chicago.Donated by Mike Miller, owner.

And maybe Kulveen's Johnny Drum (I think that's in Japan).
Enjoy your trip!

The bottle came from Julian's collection, was distilled in '74 and bottled in '91. Heck, even the wax top is DRIPPING down the bottle. Anyway, it was for charity and I wanted one of the bottles that Julian contributed to the event. Would have liked to get the Old Fitz, but I knew who was going home with that no matter what. Julian got it for $1,000.

Bobby, was the total a record for the auction.....my guess is that it was.

All for a good cause and lots of fun. And Koji got his prohibition bottle too.

I'm not sure, but if it isn't I'd say it's close. As you say, for a good cause. Congratulations again, well done! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

Hate that we missed out on all the fun at the auction. We headed out for the long drive home early Sat. Congrats, Randy! I'm glad to hear that Koji landed a bottle. We saw him looking at old prescriptions that Marvin's wife had as we were pulling out of the General Nelson for our trek home.
