Let me be the first to introduce you to scotchcognac.com (http://scotchcognac.com), "finally.... an auction website dedicated to Scotch, Cognac and Fine Spirits." This site is so new that it has not a single auction on it, nor any apparent activity of any kind. The only content on the web site appears to be boilerplate that may have come included with the auction software. There are no clues as to who might be behind it. They do anticipate five categories of auction products: scotch, cognac, bourbon, whisky, champagne and wine.

Anyway, I'm sure it's a site many here will watch with interest.

For now, this site appears to be nothing more than spirited vaporware. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

So, the first bourbon auction is for...Knob Creek? At least the opening bid is only $5.

And shipping is listed as "surface mail" for $8. I assume (hope) that means UPS or FedEX.

Oddly, the seller supposedly registered in November. Maybe a site owner?

Jim:

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed that the three auctions they had all had reserves. I suspect that when you factor in the shipping, 9 times out of 10 it will be cheaper to buy locally (either that or the reserve will not be met). I have found that for bottles available in stores, people invariably overpay for scotch and bourbon on ebay. For bottles not available in stores, people have different views on the value of scarce bottles.

The auction for the Knob Creek is up to $42. The auction does not mention that the bottle is the 1.75 liter bottle so I have to assume it is the standard bottling. There is something very fishy about this website.

Look at the details page (http://scotchcognac.com/bidhistory.php?id=100018&name=Knob%20Creek%20Kentucky%20bourbon&quantity=1)

Yeah, I would agree that its a little fishy. The guy outbid himself 3 times.

That can still be on the up side. On ebay if one prebids up to a certain price, the bid history only shows that persons bid going up and the bidding that causes it, is not shown.
