I don't know if you can still find George T. Stagg 2002 -- the original 137.6 proof bottling -- on a shelf today, but you could have this morning!
Tommie and I are in a south suburb of Memphis for a 2-day relax-and-recuperate outing after a weekend jaunt to Kentucky with her 4yo grandson, Zach -- and I noted a single bottle of Stagg on the shelf of the liquor store next to our hotel. Imagine my surprise when I spotted the 2002 "American Whiskey of the Year" sticker and the 137.6 proof label.
Oh -- it was $42.95 after tax.
The store also had a line of Frankfort B series ORVW 15yos back to the wall; several E-series VWFRRs; a couple of 2002 OFBBs; two 2002 ER17s; and Pappy 20 for under $75.
Sorry, but I'm keeping this location to myself for a couple of months, since I won't begin receiving my teaching salary again until mid-August -- and I'll be making a trip back here as soon as I can save a couple of pennies after that.
I doubt that Tommie's going to let me drag her into the half-dozen or so other liquor stores in this town, but I might sneak out while she's napping!

2 things Tim, your lucky stars are in perfect alignment, and no one that frequents that liquor store has a clue what it was or otherwise it would have been passed thru kidneys and into the Mississippi River long ago!Congrats on the find, I think you can open one of them now! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I should say near perfect alignment as perfect alignment would have netted as many EWSB1987 as you would require for your needs and to have one left over for me!

I looked, Bobby! They were all the 1994 gift sets with the stainless steel julep cup. Did have several of those -- I'd guess leftover Christmas stock.

Oh, I grabbed the Stagg, Dane (though it put a serious dent in my minimal bankroll for this outing -- I have my priorities straight http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif!). It's the rest of them I had to leave just sitting there.

congrats Tim! having never had a chance to try the '02, i hope i have some of your luck in the future!

It would have been interesting to have a Heart Rate monitor attached to you to see how much your HR jumped when you saw that 02 just sitting there.... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif
