Any appearance of the new releases of Buffalo Trace's Antique Collection in Louisville or Lexington( or anywhere for that matter)? Also, has there been any early production numbers announced for the four issues?
thanks,

Jim:
At least one of the big chains told me that they were hoping for delivery this past Friday, but no such luck. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They figured it be this coming week. I'm heading to Kentucky this week, and will be doing some trolling. Taking an extra large suitcase, just in case! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'm a little fuzzy on the max. proof of a spirit that can be taken on a plane. Do you or anyone out there know what that might be?

140 proof is the max, so you can risk them actually checking your new Stagg or ship it yourself-it is perfectly legal to ship to yourself. This might be the best way as well, since most likely you'll want more than one of each of the collection and the carry-on limit is 5 liters. Good luck in your hunting

...it is perfectly legal to ship to yourself...
Not in/to very many places -- there are just 14 so-called 'reciprocal' states, of which Kentucky ain't one. Check your local laws. Here in Tennessee, it is actually a felony to either ship or receive, to yourself or anyone else. That is not to say, however, that such laws are stringently enforced. But on the books nonetheless.

Thanks for the info Timothy. I may have to risk it, if I get lucky. But, another good thing about the Antique Collection (as if they needed more good things http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifis that if/when the screeners actually notice them, due to the bottle shape, they think they're just bottles of wine! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I guess this falls into the "would you break the law to" realm.
Always knew that having liquor shipped from a retailer into KY was illegal, but had heard of many people shipping stuff they bought out of there (hell they got their taxes, what more do they want) But yeah, I guess I "shouldn't" recommend that.
Good to be in LA right now, no shipping restrictions-I checked when I moved here.

Hello from Frankfort Kentucky. Possibly the stuff will hit the stores here in Frankfort this Friday. I picked up a couple bottles of AAA 10 year old and a bottle of Eagle Rare single barrel 10 year at Red Dot today. Plan to pick up some Stagg, Wellers, Pappy 20 year and Eagle Rare.

I took a spin past the nearest Binny's location, and it isn't in yet... looking forward to it, though. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

It finally hit the shelves in Pennsylvania. Everything except the William Larue Weller of which Pennsylvania will get only about 120 bottles per Chris Comstock. I had a taste of all of them at the Philadelphia Whiskey Fest. They are all top notch. Now where the heck can I put all this bourbon?

Just ordered up the whole collection from my favorite mail order house, doubled up the Sazerac and the WLW. While I was there I also ordered up a couple of 13yr VW Ryes. My wallet feels much lighter.

Hit Louisville today. Picked up the entire collection at Liquor Barn plus some spares. Probably won't last long. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I picked up a bottle of the Wiliam L Weller barrel proof at the new Liquor Barn in Lexington today for $46.99. It's a very smooth 121.9 proof! It's sweet with vanilla and clove notes. Morgan at the LB told me that he only got 10 bottles of this, as compared to 60 bottles of the new Stagg. After tasting it just now, I'm going to pick up a few more tomorrow http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/yum.gif

I paid significantly more for my 2 bottles of WLW via mailorder. The way I figure it, they have deals on some, and they charge slightly over market on others, but it all comes out in the wash. So far the service and selection beats anything local.

You're not alone Rob, I have spent the last couple of years scrambling to make deals on bottles I had hoped to find on a shelf somewhere and missed the boat! I have been checking all the usual suspects the last couple of days looking for any hints that Stagg and wLw were available yet and found it on one at the higher price. I jumped on it this time around and will at least have a couple of bottles of each secured within the week. And wouldn't you know it, I checked my email and they had just sent me notification of the availability! Received it just before the order receipt.
I worry that my neighborhood liquor store won't order the incoming Stagg, as he's still got several 129's and 130.9's on the shelves. Fie, I say, to Ebay and it's logrolling on Stagg. There's also a bit of Eagle Rare and Saz.
Hey, I'm drinking as fast as I can, and I'm still vexed by George T (http://www.straightbourbon.comhttp://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Premium&Number=43200&Sear chpage=6&Main=43200&Words=&topic=&Search=true#Post 43200) .
Roger "Sampler is almost just around the corner" Hodges
I have a few three packs of Stagg and one of WLW arriving tomorrow.
Got to taste taste all four at the NY WhiskeyFest last week..thanks to Kris and Ken.... The Sazerac Rye won "Whiskey of the Year".... Congrats to the BT group for again winning the "Distiller of the Year" award.

I've been able to land a few of the Stagg and WLW. My retailer said he received "a ton" of Stagg, but very little WLW. I apologize if I missed it posted elsewhere, but any word on what the bottle count is for each? Based on early exit polls, me thinks the WLW is gonna be tight.

The Antique Collection finally appeared in Northern Kentucky. The WLW and ER are in extremely short supply --- the store I visited (which is a major liquor retailer in the area) was allocated only 6 and 3 bottles respectively. Because of the small supply, you likely won't see it on the shelf --- ask if it is available.
I was able to snag two Staggs and one each of the WLW and ER and will post my impressions shortly. (I didn't check on the Sazerac since I'm not arye drinker.)
BTW, some local stores still have the Spring '05 Stagg avaialable.
Well folks, the WLW is all but gone from Lexington. 2 Liquor Barns and the Thoroughbred shop are out http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It is fantastic bourbon, I hope you all find some http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif

I was luckily able to pick up 1 bottle of the WLW in MD last Saturday (~$48). I have not opened it yet. Too many others open for now. I haven't seen the new Stagg or the ER 17 (which I REALLY want), but there seems to be some Spring '05 Stagg still around.
Jay
Ronnie's in Forest Hill, Md just put the Stagg(fall), WLW, and Sazerac on the shelf. They just ordered some ER17 for delivery next week. The shelf price is under $45 for each.

The shelf price is under $45 for each.
I picked up another case of Stagg and 2 bottles of WLW for 44.99. They were nice enough to knock off an additional 5% on each bottle. Not a deal. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Still no sign of the new Antique Collection in Chicago. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/banghead.gif
Anyone know the total amount available nationwide for each of the bottlings? My rough estimate for the Sazerac, based on the case insert, is around 2,000 bottles.

Lucky Bugger, UPS only left me a note saying they'd be back tomorrow even though I left my bedroom door open and turned the fan down to hear the doorbell when they came. I shoulda paid the extra for express shipping so I could get it before the work week started... http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/banghead.gif Who'd have thought in this day and age it would take a whole week?

Just a quick FYI, Sazerac Rye 18 year old was named American Whiskey of the Year by the Malt Advocate. Yes we make it, yes I am proud, but is it my favorite? Well................
Ken
Joe (smokin joe on this site) and I got together last night to try out the new Stagg, Wm Larue Weller, Eagle Rare 17, Bernheim and revisit a few old favorites; Wild Turkey 12 and Van Winkle Lot B. In between cigars and bourbon, we were looking over the info sheets included in the 3 pack boxes of Stagg and Sazarac rye and noticed that all the facts necessary to estimate production were there. We did not have the sheets on the Weller or the Eagle Rare.
Using the barrel size, barrel selection, evaporation loss and guessing at a 5% loss in process and bottling we arrived at a total output of 9995 bottles of GTS and 2296 of the Sazarac.
Like I said we did not have the fact sheets on the other two Antique issues, but from what I heard, I would guess the numbers on the Weller and ER 17 are at, or lower than that of the Saz.

Good news! UPS actually woke me up today and I did a sneak peek of each bottle and was WOWED. None of the alcohol burn I was expecting but that was a tiny thimblefull of each as I had to work again tonight. But tomorrow night....

FYI: on the Weller sheet:
41 barrels (53 gallons each, 66.25 original proof gallons)
58.04% evaporation loss
on the Sazerac:
28 barrels
67.73% evaporation loss
Not sure how many bottles this comes out to be ,I ll leave that to the math experts http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/drink.gif
Thanks, JamesH007 ,for the numbers on the Wm.Larue Weller.
That would put my guesstimate at 4370 bottles on that one.
I have nt seen the ER17 numbers yet .Estimates for the other 3 would be:
GTS- 9995 bottles
Saz- 2296 bottles
WLW- 4370 bottles
ER17- ?

I went to Bevmo last night. They had Stagg, Sazerac, and Eagle Rare. No Weller. Damn, that was the one I wanted the most too! Needless to say, I got Stagg and Sazerac. Haven't tried Stagg yet but Sazerac was fantastic!
I hope they release another version of Weller next year. I'll per-order to guarantee my bottle next time!
Anyone have PDF's of these inserts that came with it? I would like to read what it says.
Anyways, thanks Buffalo Trace for taking money from wallet! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It finally showed up here, too! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/woohoo.gif I wound up picking up one each of WLW, Stagg, and Sazerac. My wallet hurts.

Where did you find them? As of Monday, the Spirits guy at Sam's said he was sold out---he said he had people on a waiting list he couldn't provide some for---and Binny's on Clark had the new Stagg but none of the others. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I haven't seen production numbers and maybe Ken Weber can confirm my guesstimates. With the information from the sheets (thanks Buffalo trace)in each case here are my guesses for the William Larue Weller and George T. Stagg. Being that they are uncut and unfiltered this makes guessing easier.
George T. Stagg
~10,536 bottles
Here are my calculations
53 gal * (1 - evaporative loss) .4141 = 21.9473 gal
95 barrels * 21.9473 gal = 2084.9935 gal
2084.9935 gal * 3.79 = 7902.125365 liters
7902.125365 liters divided by .75 liters = 10,536.167153...
William Larue Weller
~4,607 bottles
Here are the real vague guesses on Sazerac 18 and ER 17
Sazerac
if uncut and unfiltered ~2,419 bottles
diluted to 90 proof probably no more than 3,500 bottles
Eagle Rare 17yr
if uncut and unfiltered ~4,286 bottles
diluted to 90 proof probably no more than 5,300 bottles
If this is posted somewhere else I apologize. I really would like to know actual production numbers.

Finally scored a bottle(okay two) of Fall Stagg in Houston today. Unfortunately there was no WLW, Saz or ER. Still on the lookout for my bottle of 05 Saz. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/searching.gif
All four showed up this week.
Tried the WLW first. What a wonderful Bourbon! Wheaters are not really my thing but the nose, the palate and the finish are all just wonderful here. I will not try to supplant Tim's evaluation but rather just add my AMEN. Nicely done.
Last night was the Eagle Rare 17. I was not nearly as impressed by this one. It wasn't bad. In fact the nose was fantastic. But the palate didn't seem to follow. I'll have to try this one again in a few days and see if it says constant.
Ken
Last night was the new Stagg. Wonderful. It seemed to have a burnt overtone to it that was really tastey. Incredible nose, full and sweet. Complex palate with lots of carmel and a huge long finish! I may have to get another one of these.
