As Bourbonian of the Year 2006, I am honored, yet intimidated by the awesome associated responsibilities; World Peace, Ambassador for Whiskey to the World, appearances, movie deals, Golden BBP modeling, manning the SB.com booth at Whiskeyfest etc.
OK: What do all y'all think goes with "The Title" from a "required duties" perspective?
The door is open. Have at it.

PS: I'm workin' on my parade wave

I think it would be a nice gesture if you traveled to each member's house with a bottle of say, WT 12 year, and poured a couple rounds. Oh - and don't forget the lightly salted mixed nuts (but no hazelnuts please).
As you indicated - honor is associated with responsibility...
This, of course, is assuming that all the groupies will even let you out of the house.

I'm not sure exactly what duties you should perform, other than the ones that you performed to earn you the honor in the first place, however...as a few examples to ensure that your reign is one of legend:

Have acrylic tasting glasses made up celebrating your title, to be provided at the Gazebo for all members(may I recommend cups with neck cords-very handy at some beer fests I've been to)

Cubans all around!

Limo service to all tours for members!

However as these things cost more far than the office pays, I think you should simple follow the style of governors and presidents, shake lots of hands and kiss bab(i)es! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/kiss.gif

I think we can put the top down on the BMW and get someone to drive you around as you wave while sitting on the back from the Gala to the Gazebo...If we do it long enough we'll even get a police escort http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smilielol.gif

Congratulations, Ed.

I'd think the most important duty of the BOTY would be hosting the Pepcycular (tm) blind tasting during the festival. If I'm lucky, I'll get to be the pouring assistant again.

Bourbonian of the Year…Bourbon is Americas original drink…that makes you almost like…American of the Year…With such honor comes great responsibility. Being new to Bourbon, and still somewhat in awe of this wonderful drink…I am thinking you must be a very special man to have such an honor bestowed upon you.
As the latest Ambassador, I am thinking it will be up to you to raise the bar a bit. Maybe a whistle stop tour of the west coast, in which you bring to us some of those difficult if not impossible to get bottling’s. Not only would you be doing Bourbon a great service, but Kentucky itself. And since this is truly Americas original drink, then you would be serving your Country as well. Gods speed to you Ed! American! Truly yours may be the shot not heard, but tasted around the World!

First of all, you have got to make the rounds at the distilleries, get to know the Master Distillers, play some golf, bet on the ponies, get them to take you round the warehouses to visit the honey barrels. Feel free to wander around by yourself to see what you can hunt up on your own. Don't forget to take samples for SB.com events.

Based on the recommendations, here is my itinerary:
1. Contact Omar and visit Miami. Bring back busload of undocumented Cubans to bring to the houses of Sb.com members
(Kind of Odd request, but two recommendations!!)
2. Set up daily schedule to visit local distilleries. Continue until bottling line personnel know me by name and ask for advice. (Ever see that Seinfeld where they can't fire Kramer because he doesn't work there)
3. Find a new job. Seems like a good idea anyway
4. Kiss babes and groupies
5. Raid Doug's House: Fastest way to accomplish that whole West Coast thing in one step. (Note to self, Remember to check attic)
6. Run for Mayor of Bardstown: But not win.
7. Conduct the Blind Tasting every Festival
8. Volunteer to be on tasting panels for all distilleries and bottlers
9. Keep the Patty: Like this was negotiable
Anymore Suggestions?

Give Heinz( and assistant ) a personal late night tour of

Bardstown's hot spots!

Smile as he shows you his "world class" bourbon collection

photos!

Lift your "empty" glass as you share some of the whiskies he forgot to bring to the KBF!

Ed, I'm afraid you're confused as it's BOYT instead of BOTY. BOYT stands for Bring Out Your Trash. I believe the only duties are for sanitation engineering....

And don't forget to your right side using your left hand, and to your left using your right. its what all the parade queens do (or used to do, anyway) to prevent underarm exposure! http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/images/graemlins/smilielol.gif

In my short time here I find myself struggling with that very thing. I think I am trying too hard to make up for lost time…and being new, at some deep level I must be afraid that I am going to loose out on something if I don’t grab up some of these bottles and hoard them! Oh man…I need help!
With my purchase of another bottle of Van Winkle Family Rye, and one of Wild Turkey Rye, I have hit my self-imposed limit of 20 bottles. I shall now try and relax and enjoy my stash. Of course my Bulleit is almost gone, and I will need to fill that space!
My wife can’t understand my sudden desire to visit Kentucky?
She can’t understand my sudden need to clean up and organize the top shelf of the pantry?
If an earthquake hits the northwest…it will be my fault I am sure for coveting.

Maybe we can add additional passenger cars and make it into a train.
