View Full Version : Blantons Value
I have a 15 year old bottle of Blantons SB ,White Label(parchment)that has never been opened.
What do you think the value on such an item would be?
Thanks!

First, read the sticky at the top of this thread about values.
Second, if by "15 year old" you mean something that was bottled 15 years ago, that is irrelevant. Whiskey doesn't age in the bottle. And I have to assume that is what you mean, because I know of no Blanton's release of a bourbon aged 15-years, but it's possible. There are some Blanton's expressions sold in Asia that are not sold in the United States.
Third, as Blanton's is a product that is still on the market, unless you can demonstrate that what you have is some rare special issue, which the information you provided suggests it is not, then it basically is worth no more than the standard retail price.
I hope this is helpful.

Third, most of the members of this group will tell you that on these older bottles and for that matter most of the newer ones, the corks tend to pop out after we get them home. Rapid evaporation then follows.

I know of a 'less-than-desireable-neigborhood' store here in town that has a bottle of Blanton's which was bottled in 1997. I don't think of it as being any more valuable than the shelf price. As said, bourbon does not age in the barrel. In fact, I have not considered buying that particular bottle of Blanton's BECAUSE of the age. Further explanation: in that particular neighborhood, Blanton's has not sold in any appreciable quantity in probably 20 years. I am more afraid it has sat there undisturbed for 8 or 9 years now and the cork is dried out, damaged, or otherwise negatively affected the contents. Maybe I'm wrong - but me not willing to take a $50 dice roll on it.
Also, does your bottle state the production date on the label? I am not sure Blanton's ever has had a label with an age statement.....but, maybe I'm in error. Perhaps some of their older bottles did(?). If yours doe'nt, then I would assume you meant that you have had it for 15 years or it was bottled 15 years ago. That being the case, I would agree with the previous post - present value about the same as retail.
Finally dug that bottle up-it wasn't where I last remembered putting it!
Here's the hard stats:
Dumped on: 11-02-90
From Barrel # 110
Stored in :Warehouse H
On Rick #48
Bottled by hand at 93 proof
Registered bottle # is 258
Oh yeah this bottle has been stored on it's side ever since I got it.
The above help anyone or really make a difference?
First, stand that sucker up immediately. The high alcohol content of whiskey will do bad things to a cork. If it has been on its side since 1990, it may very well be ruined. Never store whiskey on its side.
I understand now why you called it "15 years old," but when we talk about a whiskey's age, we're talking about how long it was in wood, not how long it has been in the liquor cabinet.
Bottom line, Blanton's is good bourbon and assuming the cork hasn't ruined the whiskey, it's still good bourbon, but it has no resale value. Sorry.
