View Full Version : just one bottle?
I just caught myself reminiscing about when I first fell in love with good bourbon. At the time I could not afford more than about $30 for a bottle, and my wife thought it was extravagant to have more than one bottle in the house at a time. Which led me to wonder:
If you could have only one bottle of bourbon, and it had to cost less than $30, what would it be?
I am torn between BT, and EW SB, but the EWSB holds a slight edge for me.
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I could not figure out how to search for the topic.

With the discontinuation of WTRR101, which has been my favorite pour, I'd go with Old Forester BIB. If I can cheat and also pick up a bottle of Tennesee whiskey, put me down as well for a bottle of Dickel No. 12.
Some of this might vary depending upon where you live/shop. Here, the WTRR 101 went for about $28, and is the only thing I can think of that would have given me any pause in answering, back then too, OGD 114.

Orvw 10/107
I'd agree with Big Chipper, but since I can't get ORVW 10/107 around here, I'll go with ERSB.

I'm a broken record. Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel.

Old Charter 13yo $24...put away that extra $6 every time and save up for a nicer bottle.
At under $30, for me it would come down to either Knob Creek or RR90.

WT 101, mostly because WTRR 101 is no longer available and even on sale WT RB is just over 30 dollars.
WT Rare Breed, counting myself fortunate that it prices out at just under $30 with tax in my neck of the woods.

Mine wouldn't even be a bourbon, it'd be WT rye hands down.

I guess I'd quit "sipping" bourbon and stick with my Bacardi and Diet Coke! It makes me happy!!

I can't decide. Either Evan Williams Single Barrel or Weller 12, or maybe Four Roses Single Barrel.

It's interesting that you say that, because that's exactly what I did.

Eagle Rare Single Barrel - that is, if I can find a good one that is part of BT's retailer barrel selection program.....something not as easy to do as it sounds. It has been my good fortune and experience to find a few - and the contents have actually been 12-14 YO instead of around 10 years.
If not, then it is an easy choice for me - OGD 114.

At Chicago prices, it would be one of:
Sazerac Jr. Rye
WT Rye
Weller 12/90
Weller 7/107
OGD 114
ETLNaaaaah, one bottle is too few! Really, there are a whole lot of sub-$30, and even sub-$20 bottles that are Good Stuff. I could add AAA 10 year, Jim Beam Black, Old Fitzgerald BIB, George Dickel #12 (Tennessee), Rittenhouse BIB Rye, standard WT 101, OGD BIB, ERSB 10... you get the picture.

I would definitely have to say that my choice is Old Grand-Dad 114...or ORVW 10/107.
