Some time ago, I mentioned that I had some dusty shelf bourbon when briefly in San Francisco for a beer festival. I found it in small grocery stores by spending 80% of the daylight of each day looking for this stuff. And it was worth searching out. I found a circa-1990 S-W Old Fitz 1849; a '68 I.W. Harper BIB 5 years old (not 4); and a pint of NDOT, early 80's. There were some California barley wines in my little bunker, too.
Due to a luggage malfunction very early in the morning of the day my early flight was to leave, I could not conveniently take it home.
To make a long story short, it stayed at the hotel. Of the various alternatives I had to redirect it, I decided to give it to an esteemed, senior SB member who resides in Northern California. Actually (and I mean this) they are all esteemed, but I could only (practically) choose one, and I understand he is now in possession of the stash.
It gives me great pleasure that it ended up in such good and deserving hands.
I am hoping he will post a taste note in particular on the I.W. Harper but if he doesn't that's okay. I am not putting him on the spot since his name will remain undisclosed unless he chooses to identify himself.
The Bourbon has landed.
