View Full Version : Is this whiskey made in Bardstown?

I wonder if you could help me to shed some light on the provenance of a whiskey. Especially concerning its affiliation to DSP-31.

I just got one of those Scottish independent bottlings. This one in question, being from Cadenhead´s collection of World Whiskies. The whiskey in the bottle is a cask strength bourbon (124,4 proof) and according to the label it is "Distilled at Heaven Hill Distilleries Inc.Bardstown, Kentucky".

Can this really be? The label also states that it was bottled in February 2007. Considering that the current EWSB is made at Beam, I just don´t get these facts to correspond.

Could it be that Bardstown in this case, signifies the capitol of the company rather than the place of distillation? Or is this some of the last drops distilled at HH Bardstown?

Any input is welcome. Thanks!

Well the fire was 11-7-96. If the whiskey in the bottle is 10yo and no more it could have been distilled anytime Feb 96-Feb 97...most of which would be DSP-31 pre-fire.

It is 10yo. I forgot to mention that. Sorry! Without that info my reasoning is bordering on the incomprehensible.

You are probably right. I am, as anyone acquainted with me can testify, a lousy mathematician. What you mean is that the whiskey can be slightly older than 10yo. I just read "Bottled in february 2007" and subtracted 10 years. Oh, well.

Also keep in mind that the stated age on the bottle is a minimum age -- while it can't be younger than what is stated, it CAN be older, even much older.

Just open it and tell us how it tastes!
I'm thinking it's VROHH without being watered down to 100 proof. Gives me something to look for next time I'm in Europe!

I certainly will. I´ve never had HH whiskey in cask strength guise so I´m pretty excited. Anyone familiar with independent bottlings will know that they are hit-or-miss affairs but I´m keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck! Only 168 bottles made according to the label. Then again, they might produce another version. In the past, Cadenhead´s have also made 8yo and 15yo versions of HH cask strength.
