Sorry if this notion is trite but I figured it would be fun.

Suppose you were shipwrecked on a desert island and had the fortune of packing 5 bottles of bourbon or rye for your stay. What would you pick?

For starters, I'd say that I don't think I'd pick 5 of the most prized or rated bourbons but the ones that I drink regularly and crave (and those that satisfy!).

Here's my list in no particular order (I haven't had the fortune of trying BTAC so excuse my list):

OGD BIB
Pappy 15
Rittenhouse BIB
WT Rare Breed
Booker's

Only 5? Better be a damn short stay on that island! :skep:

Oh come on -- just pretend it's two week stay!

For me, it would be 5 bottles of 07 Stagg. And, not just because it's fine whiskey. Matter of fact, it's probably not even in my top 5! But there's a lot of utility you can get from 144 proof whiskey, when you're on a desert island. Then again, if you don't need it for antiseptic, fuel, etc.; with a little dilution, 5 bottles becomes 10! :D

You might enjoy viewing this thread from nearly four years ago!

It was called Stationed at Cape Horn for a Year!

Wow, the lists are so much fun to read and are a fine illustration of just how much bourbon and rye have grown. There are more bottles available now at both low, mid and high dollar amounts. Then again there are some that are no longer available.

I'll take 5 bottles of GTS, make it last and so many uses.

Sorry for the semi-redundant post. I didn't do a search for "cape horn" before posting. Consider this a less difficult and less extensive poll. The other is certainly quite interesting and thoughtful!

Pappy 15
Stagg (I don't care the year)

These will have to do until the Skipper figures out a way to get Mary Ann and me off this island. I'll leave the Professor behind with a sample of Batch 1 of Woodford Reserve Four Grain to figure out what went wrong:

George T. Stagg 2002
Mellow Mash
Old Taylor BIB (National Distillers)
Pappy 23 (a bottle in the 2,000s)
Wild Turkey 12 (cheesy gold label)

I'll stick with Cliff's list!

Cheers!

My picks.

1. WT RB
2. '06 Handy
3. Weller Antique
4. Booker's
5. Hm, I think another bottle of Rare Breed

Well, lemme see:

first off I wanna have Randy's 5 gallon AMS bottle filled with WT 12 split label...that's one bottle
Second I'll take my 1.75 of ER101
Third...um... OGD BIB from ND in a half gallon
Fourth, well it seems one of the barrels of American Spirit happen to be on the ship I was traveling on, so that would be one barrel of 15+yo barrel proof WT...
fifth and last, one lowly bottle of George T Stagg 2002...

Easy enough,
van Winkle 15yo
Dickel 12yo
Knob creek
Old Potrero single malted rye
Elijah Craig 12yo

But let it be a tropical island and not Jan Majen orso.
Eric.

From my own bunker:

Black Maple Hill 21yo
Maker's Mark Select Black Wax
1968 Old Fitzgerald BIB
Spring 2003 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon
Old Grand Dad (!! -- when I'm not in a sipping/tasting mood)

Bonus non-bourbon: Glenfiddich 15yo Solera Reserve (new discovery to me)

Elijah Craig 18yo just missed the cut because I always take it with an ice cube or two, and I don't think those will be available to me on the desert island... (If I run out of the Old Fitz before being shipwrecked, I'd settle for gold-veined Old Weller Antique 107.)

In my opinion, those older Old Fitz BIB's are at the top of my list.

I've never seen most of my favorites in a 1.75L package so I guess that won't help :(

how's this
1- WTRB
2- GTS 2007 (goes a LONG way with some water)
3- WTKS
4- OGD 114

I'll trade the last bottle for a few bags of corn and grain and the odd oak barrel in case I never get rescued, at least I can make an attempt at a longer term solution to the problem!!!!!!
