It never occurred to me before, but looking at the regs, Bourbon must be "produced at not exceeding 160° proof ...and stored at not more than 125° proof "

Since the new Staggs are up in the 70% abv range, does this take them out of the definition of Bourbon?

"Stored at" means Barrel Entry not at barrel dumping.

Doesn't abv go down, not up, between barrel entry and barrel dumping...angel's share and all?

Scotch generally ticks downward whereas bourbon/rye generally go up in ABV.

I am not a scotch expert (nor do I play one on TV) but how can this be?

I was just kidding about the brake cleaner. I love the stuff it is in my top 5 pours. But in a pinch you could soak brake parts in it and all the gunk will dissolve. I'd still drink the whiskey. It is just that good.

I Agree! Stagg's at the top for me right now, I'm liking it a lot more than the PVW20 & EC18 right next to it. Although the Vintage 17 to the left is MIGHTY tasty!!!

Luckily I have 2 more bottles of the Stagg left. One to open with the ORVW 10/107, and the other to open with the new WL Weller BTAC I just got.

i knew what you meant.... I was just adding in my 2-cents worth... I have seen your posts and know it is in your top selections.... it will also disolve rubber and a few other items... like your liver :grin:

mmm looking at getting an older bottle of the stagg now...
