I'd like to try a bottle of this, but see none on the shelves in Austin nor any online at Binny's. anyone know where I can score a single bottle to try it out, preferably at a price that doesn't require lube?

I have not seen one in Austin in all my travels. If you call Republic Distributing, they will know if there are any in town. IIRC, Republic is the rep for BT here.

Make the short drive to Houston and I'll show you where you can find them at reasonable (under $60) prices. ER 17 and W Larue Wellers too. And all the Van Winkles.

Binny's may not have it on their web site but I just saw many bottles of it, in the Clark Street store, at $59.99. At least they were there an hour ago.

There are a few sites on the net that have them... and a few more over the next couple of weeks... the 2--7 version does not seem to be as popular as the 2002-2006 versions....

Pretty bold statement :skep: or you have some inside information to support that?? I'm betting that if you look at the number of bottles produced each year....the number has increased every year since 2002. And I'm just guessing here!!

I used the word seemed because I have not crunched the numbers specifically and taste is so subjective. The discussion on this and the other 3 bourbon sites indicate that when compairing the 02-07, the 07 is the least favorite.

I like the 2007 just fine. I find the 05F, 05S, and 06 better and that seems to be the concession the discussion boards. I really like the 07 on the rocks.

I would expect every bottle to sell, but it would be fun to have a poll to compare how folks like the 07 next to the other... let the truth be fond scientifically...

Now for your last statement/question... I need to find the production rates. I cannot find where I read it (it was on this site of bourbonenthusiast.com), but 07 was suppose to have produced fewer bottles than 05 or 06. For fun I will ask when I am at BT in June or I will bug Mike V, he would probably know.

.. anyhow, how was the sampler? No FR120th I heard... find anything else of note?

The actual number of bottles produced in each of the last three years is probably pretty close but is considerably more than was produced previously. In 2004, it was 40 barrels. Timothy may know what it was before that. The point is, the supply has increased considerably over the last three years. It's still a sell-out at the distillery level and probably at the distributor level, but it's lingering on store shelves a little longer with, all in all, is probably a good thing, because it's not so totally out of reach.

And I'll go a step further and make my own BOLD statement. I'm betting that the men that RAVE about the 2002 bottle of Stagg being the best ever....haven't really done a comparison with all the since released versions. I really don't think that we can give credibility to someone's memory of the 2002 and some written tasting notes :skep: Personally, I've never tasted the 2002 bottle.

Nice try but I ain't buyin it! I had the 2002 last fall and it was better than the 3 2005's, 2006 and the 2007 I currently have! I can not speak for the 2003 or 2004...maybe you can?? :grin:

I have had the GTS from 2003 - 2007 and can honestly say that all are spectacular. All I can say is thank goodness for this annual release from BT as I look forward to grabbing a few bottles every year. If I were to choose my favorite, it would be the 2006 release by a very narrow margin.

BTW - I was just in Scottsdale, AZ last week and Sportsmans had about 3-4 '07's left on their shelf at $75 a piece.

Jeff thanks.. AJ here in Tucson has 4 bottles as well for $85. The BevMos here sold out real quick, but it was only $46 per. I got 4 of them.

I've had the '03 through the '06 (I'm going to open the '07 soon). I love them all, but the '04 is my favorite. It's not as "big" (although it's still massive) as the subsequent vintages. I liked it best for its refinement and balance while still being extraordinarily potent. As the Staggs have moved along through the years they just get to be "more" - bigger and overpowering. I love that about them, but if I had all to choose from, I'd reach for the '04. It's probably in my top 3, definitely top 5 favorite bourbons ever.

I've had all of them and to be honest, comparing them is like comparing Macintosh to Red Delicious to Fuji....and so on. All apples, all delicious, and every one with its own characteristics. Asking me to pick one would be like having all your kids in a room together and having to say one is your favorite. I just can't do it.

UGH! (Please sense my frustration in the inability to communicate what I mean!)

What I meant to insinuate.......you know how you go to a resturaunt and have a meal that just knocks your socks off and you can't wait for the opportunity to go back and have that meal again. When you finally get the opportunity to go back and have it again.....after you've tried hundreds of similiar meals that just didn't seem to measure up, you find that your knock your socks off meal wasn't really that different from the others that you tried??? But it was your first WOW....and stayed with you as the Best???

That's what I speculate has trickled down on this board about the 2002 Stagg. It was the first.....and less than a handful of people have actually compared it to the recent releases....but the masses have been lead to believe that the 2002 was/is the holy grail. I'm not saying it's not....cuz I haven't tasted it!

I loved Dane's report here! See....he doesn't say it was the holy grail....but that they're all different and quite yummy :grin: I've tasted the 2004 through current release. (I think) You probably don't want my opinion....but I'll share it anyway....too much in your face alcohol for me. I like the 129 proof one.
