Regular ice cubes have too much surface...melt too quickly adding too much water. Instead, I use ice balls.

Pour distilled water into the molds....store in freezer. before use, put under cold water (eases the separation without breaking the ball in two) and enjoy.

Good article today in the Portland Tribune about micro-distillery whiskey, focusing specifically on the crucial difference between "made by" and "distilled by." Love to see a reporter actually asking the right questions instead of just sopping up whatever the producers spew out. Of course, Portland and the Pacific Northwest were early to the craft distilling game and folks there are generally more sophisticated about this sort of thing.

I cleaned it out with hot water and I noticed the "Made in China" sticker but thought it'd be ok... Well, I just poured some and the bourbon's turned almost green w/ grey colloidal swirls :-(

Do you guys use these el cheapo flasks? If so, do you ever check for whisky discoloration?

It's on the first floor right off the kitchen with a separate door to the front porch, hot and cold running water, a small commercial ice maker, and typically has 6 stools around it but we can fit up to 10 stools. I built and finished it all myself while my wife was in school out of state.
