I like cool bourbon. A little water opens up the alcohol...too much dilutes it.

Regular ice cubes have too much surface...melt too quickly adding too much water. Instead, I use ice balls.

Pour distilled water into the molds....store in freezer. before use, put under cold water (eases the separation without breaking the ball in two) and enjoy.

Good article today in the Portland Tribune about micro-distillery whiskey, focusing specifically on the crucial difference between "made by" and "distilled by." Love to see a reporter actually asking the right questions instead of just sopping up whatever the producers spew out. Of course, Portland and the Pacific Northwest were early to the craft distilling game and folks there are generally more sophisticated about this sort of thing.

Ignore the paragraphs about LDI. She got that all wrong, but did pretty well with everything else.

I'm interested in buying a book or two that deal with or can be applied to dusty hunting. I did several searches and came across a few bourbon history books that look really interesting, but none directly relating to the subject. I've found several online blogs which feature dusty related topics but so far, no books. Any recommendations?

I got a free flask from a recent Bourbon event and I filled it with some OGD114 for my trip. I cleaned it out with hot water and I noticed the "Made in China" sticker but thought it'd be ok... Well, I just poured some and the bourbon's turned almost green w/ grey colloidal swirls :-(

Do you guys use these el cheapo flasks? If so, do you ever check for whisky discoloration?

(Good thing my other "Made in Japan"/Titanium flask has been rock solid - always have a backup)

Can't speak to the wine, but what a cool idea. Whiskey distillers, beer brewers, please take notice!

I know there is a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it. I want to clean a couple of empty bottles of OWA and Maker's out to use as decanters for emptying handles into or vatting. Just rip the labels off and throw them into the washer? Any reason to not do that?

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate sub forum but I guess your home bar could be considered a bourbon drinking accessory. Do you have a home bar? If so, post up some pictures. If not then post up some ideas for your ideal home bar. I'll start of with pictures of my home bar. It's on the first floor right off the kitchen with a separate door to the front porch, hot and cold running water, a small commercial ice maker, and typically has 6 stools around it but we can fit up to 10 stools. I built and finished it all myself while my wife was in school out of state.

Has anybody here done this? I was thinking I could put a string of white Christmas lights on the inside of a few of my nicer empties (FRSmB comes to mind) and I'm curious if anybody has tried it... tips/tricks and/or pics of your completed bottle-lights would be cool.

* I did a search for a thread like this and couldn't find one. Seems like a topic that would have been discussed before though.
