I've not tried Glenmorangie, but I see they are one of the biggest distilleries.

Is Glenmorangie just another version of the typical Glen scotch?

This is my first taste of this one, and I'm not an expert at this, neither am I a total novice. This is what I get:

Ocean
Honey
Leather
Iodine
Band aids
and waaaaay at the end, smoky burned peat (which is also where the Band aids flavor seems to originate)

It's all very balanced and quite interesting. Not a peat monster at all. Absolutely nothing like bourbon or rye.

I really like HP 12. This might become a staple :)

Anyways, found it on the LA Whisky Society website and the reviews seem mixed. It apparently is discontinued as well, anyone around her had some recently, thoughts?

Myself, probably will regret it at the huge price tag, but just took ownership of a Port Ellen 12th Annual and a Lagavulin 21 year. We'll see if they are worth it, eventually. Also a Balvenie 17 year Peated Cask, not too impressed so far in that.

A little taste of Ardbeg Corryvreckan, followed by some Caol Ila Cask Strength (Distillery bottling) which is pretty much my go to favorate CS other than Uigea maybe. And then had some St. Magdalene 19 year which I just don't get, maybe my pallate isn't sophisticated enough yet, but I just don't see what Johannes saw in this whisky to be one of his all time favorites. Hopefully as I experience more SM I'll better appreciate things I don't pick up yet.

At $32 I haven't decided if I should splurge on it or not. This particular version is reportedly made from Whey and is at a very healthy "farmer's strength" of 120 proof.

I was spoiled a bit on St. Paddys by a bottle of Glendalough Poitin direct from Ireland that I would buy if I could get my hands on it. It is at a lower proof and is a barley malt mashbill aged in new Irish oak for a short time according to the website so it is not a typical version. But it was quite good with some real nice malty sweetness to balance the youth.

I would also like to try the Cooley Poitin which is new make whiskey using a single pot still recipe like Redbreast and the Teeling Poitin which is a blend of grain and malt mashbill.
