I have 2 of the JPRS 17. I was not impressed. I would take a PVW 15 over the JPRS 17. Any thoughts? Should I get one just to put in the bunker? I can't find any more PVW 15 out here anyway. Let me know.

I started this thread to cronicle the progression of my re-barrel project.

I just ordered a 5L barrel, medium char, from Oak Barrels LTD.

I decided to put 4.5 liters of new label OWA in it. It will be stored in my attached garage. I will see fairly big temp swings, but not like an out building... but that is all I have.

My thoughts are that during the winter I will not see a big difference over a few months. If I am incorrect, please chime in.

Also feel free to give me your 2 cents on what to do throughout this project. I have never done this before, so all input would be appreciated.

and 1 quick question....

I was surprised how much of Greg's juice was lost due to evaporation and sampling.... What would be the affects of wrapping the barrell in Saran Wrap to cut down on evaporation????

Wish me luck !!!

I may have the chance to stop in at Park Avenue Liquors in NYC.

I know they have a lot of their own barrels, etc. What, in the opinion of those who have tried them, are the jewels to be tried? If I were to buy 2 or 3 bottles as I pass through, what are the must haves?

Thanks!

OK, I've read a lot of the old posts and found enough to make me worry.

I have a friend who will be traveling from Boston to Hong Kong (and back) and changing planes in Detroit.

If he buys Bourbon in Hong Kong duty free on the way back, they deliver the bottles to him on the plane. Then he gets off the plane in Detroit to change for the second leg of the trip back home (Boston).

Does this now leave him standing in the Detroit Airport, unable to bring the duty free bottles onto the next plane because they are big bottles of liquid?

How do you do this correctly?

(Other than buying in Hong Kong at a street store and packing it all in your checked luggage)

Thanks for the help,

OK, I did my research and still have a question. I was recently in IL and a friend had 2 bottles (ltr) of David Nicholson 1843 bourbon, one we sampled and he was kind enough to sell me the other. It says on the back label "distilled and bottled by Stitzell-Weller". It also says "original 43 recipe". He said the guy who gave them to him (years ago) knew Julian I, and got them from him. He also said it was distilled in MO at one time. I found it a delightful whiskey, but it didn't taste like a wheater to me (but SW OF doesn't taste like a wheater either). I'm sure in 1843 there were no wheat whiskeys, or am I wrong? Did SW ever make a rye based whiskey? Last question, was it ever made in MO and if so when? Thanks for the help guys and gals.
