Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Caol Ila cask strength. This one was 59.2% and it was just sooooo fine. I so hate to see it go. I have some more in the bunker, but they're marked 59.3% ... so from a different run. But it doesn't matter. I've never had a Caol Ila I didn't think was great.
I love all Islays, (... uhm...but maybe not Bowmore so much) but I enjoyed this bottle even more than other excellent Islays I've had, like Laphroaig cask strength or Quarter Cask, or Ardbeg 10 or Lagavulin 12, ... or 16 ... okay... as much as I like Lagavulin 16 (at least as I remember) ... and Ardbeg Uidiagail (or whatever spelling).
It was cool, damp and rainy today. Maybe that's why that peat smoke hit the spot. ...something ...
I want to build a camp fire.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Last night was a bottle of Paddy's Irish whisky consumed by a few friends.... not a bad little pour for the $$. Easy to enjoy.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Killed my Wiser's Legacy last night. And just as I was really starting to enjoy it. I hate when it takes half a bottle to figure a whisky out.
For those interested in trying Legacy, I recommend letting it sit in the glass for at least five minutes before trying to assess it. Also, a splash of water/single ice cube won't hurt.

I'll have to try the CI Cask Strength, as I really love the standard 12 year old version. Caol Ila doesn't seem to get the attention it deserves and has climbed very near the top of my list of classic single malts.

Caol Ila 12 y.o. is still on my yet to try list. I've almost bought it a couple times, but always walked away with another expression for one reason or another. The last time was because the Cask Strength boxes were water damaged or something and it was selling at a 40% discount , (I'm not a box collector, anyway.) ... as I type, tho', we're having a pour of Caol Ila 8 y.o. "unpeated style"... better continue in the proper thread ...
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Clontarf Single Malt. A tasting Irish whiskey. Will be missed and hard to find.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
I had to escort a 1.75 of Weller Sr. from Everetts down to the basement for storage.
Next stop, Dads raspberry wine.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Finishing off Forty Creek Confederation Oak Reserve. I declare this the best Canadian whisky I've had. Superb depth and balance, and a bittersweet flavour with clean wood notes that I haven't found elsewhere. Very, very good.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Killed a 4R yellow this week. Not bad at all, but probably won't be replaced anytime soon.
Re: Which Bottle Have You Laid To Rest?
Finally finished a bottle of Macallan 10 Fine Oak. Glad to see this one go. So sweet it makes the Glenlivet French Oak seem like Laphroaig by comparison.
