Last night I said farewell to a bottle of 2007 WLW. The last couple of ounces had a distinctive charred taste, and holding the glass up to the light revealed a large population of floating black charred bits. Talk about having bourbon with your barbeque!

Ha, my girlfriend saw the bottom of my glass that contained the last of the bottle I purchased. In the dim light of the living room it looks like coffee grinds. She just can't figure how that could taste good.

I killed mine many months ago but I do recall the "stuff" at the end. It all part of the flavor of one of the all time best pours!!!!!!!!!
When I finished my first 2005 WLW, the last 1-1 1/2 oz were almost bitter wtih a chared coal taste... I might try filtering the last 2 oz in this next bottle...
The char isn't bad but I usually wind up filtering it out with a coffee filter when I'm finishing off a GTS or WLW. If it's in the glass then it usually accounts for the majority of what I taste or smell, this tends to get old fast for me. One of these days I'll try the end unfiltered as a mixer...
Some people shake the bottle each time they pour one so as not to have a lot of char at the end.
I don't and pour slow to keep it at the bottom and filter the last 2oz.
I'm down to the last char filled ounce or two of a bottle of Stagg. I also have a 3/4 full bottle of Beam Black that hasn't lived up to my previous experiences with the brand. Me thinks I'm going to pour the last of the charry Stagg into the bottle of JBB, to see if that gives it a kick in the pants.
