Hello All,
I'm looking for a good wheated bourbon that isn't overly sweet tasting. My past experience with a wheated variety is Maker's Mark and it's just too syrupy for my taste to drink neat.
I've enjoyed the WL Weller from the BTAC (haven't opened my 2008 bottle yet) but that's not an everyday pour for me at those prices and availability. What about the other WLW offerings or any other makes out there that you all can suggest. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
Have you tried Van Winkle Lot B? I don't get the "syrupy sweetness" from wheaters so I'm probably not the best to suggest something, but I really like the BTAC WLW and next to that I like Pappy Lot B. Other than that, I tend to stick to Rye based Bourbons.
Since you seem to like extra age, try the Weller 12-year-old. It's much more affordable.
Also try Old Fitzgerald Prime or Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond. I like them both but prefer the bond.
I agree with Chuck on the Weller 12. Weller Special Reserve and Weller Antique 107 are good too. Another you might try is the Eagle Rare 10/90 Single Barrel. It is smooth and somewhat sweet, which may not be to your liking. On the other hand, it is more full bodied, with a much different taste profile than Maker's. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Joe
Another vote for Old Weller Antique 107 (while Lot B is not "super sweet" IMO, it *is* smoother than most.)

No, it is not. However it does have fairly low proportion of rye, so it doesn't have a high amount of the flavors that would be related to that grain.Quote:

Fitz, Weller, Yell and Still were once all products of Stitzel-Weller, which only made wheated bourbon. The founder of Maker's liked Old Fitzgerald and was good friends with Stitzel's owner, so he decided to do a wheated bourbon too. (Oh no, wait. He was baking bread.)
