I agree whatever way you take your bourbon is fine with me but can you tell a difference between them if they are mixed with coke.
Like Oscar said, drink it how you like it and eventually you will graduate to neat. Eventually you'll just want to drink 'em neat. One day I just forsook ice.
But, cowboy up and don't make silly faces. :D
try smaller sips.
The first bourbon I ever tasted was given to me by my sister. It was WT101, and I did not really know what to do with it, so I just drank it straight. I really liked it, and while I have tried bourbon on the rocks, I still prefer it straight. I guess I just got lucky, and never really had to learn to acquire the taste.
Actually I guess it was seconded on page one. Fifthed!
Yes. You won't be able to detect the "hints of vanilla" "tobacco essence" "smokey raisins" or whatever else someone's tasting notes blabs about, but two different bourbon and colas side by side are easy to tell apart. Eyes closed. In the dark. With one hand tied behind my back.
It's interesting what bourbons go well with certain mixers and which bourbons don't. Some amazing pours don't mix well with anything (not that you would anyway) and some bottom shelf pours seem to make every drink better.
Oh, and about making a face when you drink it straight - I always thought that was just my senses waking up! If it feels good, do it, if not, don't. Like others here have stated, life is too short.
I found it easier to drink "Neat" when she holds the glass between her breast
